Visual Arts

Hello Aitken Hill Primary!

Welcome back to Term 3, there’s lots planned for Visual Arts and we are off to a flying start.

Both Foundation and 1/2 Communities explored NAIDOC for the first week back. They shared about their own cultures and identities and gained a better understanding of, and respect for, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. Students looked at Aboriginal symbols and how they were used to communicate through art and on wooden message sticks. Students were inspired and designed their own symbols to share about themselves and the things they like.

FOUNDATION COMMUNITY

Students have been learning all about torn paper collage, colours and emotions. They have been working hard on their fine motor skills by tearing tiny pieces of coloured paper and glueing it onto a character from Inside Out. This week we have introduced a self-evaluation rubric to help the students discuss where they think their level of skill sits and what they can do to improve their technique.

 1/2 COMMUNITY

Students continued working on their egg carton animals using their knowledge of warm and cool colours. They are at the painting and decorating stage, after previously designing and labelling their animals. Students have been applying 3D materials like pom-poms, pipe cleaners, sequins and beads, to give their animals more detail. This has been timed perfectly with their exciting excursion to Werribee Zoo and the Art room is currently full of colourful, sparkly animals!

3/4 COMMUNITY

Students have been hard at work on their Aitken Hill Nature Landscape pictures using oil pastels. They have been employing smudging techniques to blend primary and secondary colours, using their knowledge of the colour wheel. The artwork being produced is full of amazing colour and texture.

5/6 COMMUNITY

Students are continuing their Abstract Self-Portraits, focusing on colour and texture. They have painted in bright, vibrant colours and are beginning to stick down 3D materials on each coloured abstract part, including: beads, pieces of straw, scrunched up coloured paper, pipe cleaners, pom-poms, cellophane and other items in the art room. Their persistence and patience is paying off as the work being created looks amazing!

ART SMOCKS

A reminder to send a labelled art smock (an old shirt or purchased one) with your child to school. We can keep these in the art smock tubs for use with paint and clay to protect uniforms. Thank you to the students and their families who have already done this.

We are always extremely proud of Aitken Hill students' creativity and expression through art work and can't wait to see their finished pieces.

Thank you,
