Principal's News

Where every child is known, challenged and supported to be lifelong learners.

Dear Parents and Friends,

Well, I am very excited to be back at school full time without my sling and getting back into the swing of school life.

What a busy week we have had since our last newsletter.

Body Education Parent Child Night

It was great to hear such positive feedback from our community regarding the Body Education Parent, Child Information night. We had an amazing turnout with 27 families attending the 3/4 session and 22 families attending the 5/6 session.

A parent kindly sent me some screenshots from the Parent's Group Facebook page.  Here is some of the great feedback our families gave about the night:

Just wanted to say a huge thankyou for the body info last night.  What a fun informative night.  The host was brillant and the kids got a lot out of it.

Sally Anne.

I also received this lovely email:

Hi Wendy,

Thank you so much for providing the opportunity for our kids to receive this important information in such a safe space.

I have seen Kelly a few times here at Kilbreda, so I knew we were in for a great session but she exceeded my expectations with the younger ones. We have a very open dialogue at home with this kind of information and what Kelly covered was the conversations we had started to have with Dash and Kit, so it also validated that my kids are hearing the age-appropriate content from me and Drew.

I think both the adults and kids really got a lot out of the session and we would love to see this program continue as they get older.

Kylie

Both Belinda and Suzie said that both sessions of the night were amazing - a nice amount of humour that made the children feel very comfortable with the conversations that were had. Belinda may have said and I quote “It was like being at the comedy club!”

We look forward to the next session for the Foundation - Year 2 on 4th October at 6.30 pm in the hall.

Happenings at St Brigid's This Week

The children have had such a busy week with many events occuring.

COMO HOUSE F-2

On Monday, our F to Year 2 boarded the bus for Como House where they learnt lots about our history. They learnt how to hold their hands like a servant, dance the old fashioned way and looked at all the ‘old’ furniture in the house. Even Mrs Young had to walk and behave like a servant at one stage and she did find it very difficult to not talk unless she was spoken to - that did make me smile a little bit because Mrs Young does love a chat!

ST MARY OF THE CROSS PRAYER SERVICE

A big thank you to Mrs Marziano and the Year 6 students who presented the St Mary of the Cross Prayer Prayer Service on Tuesday. It was a beautiful reflection on the life of Australia’s first saint. The children in all year levels have made beautiful displays which are up in the hall - please go and have a look at them.

LEGALLY BLONDE

Our Year 5’s had the wonderful opportunity to go to Kilbreda on Wednesday to see the production of Legally Blonde.

Mikki - It was really cool.   I thought the cast were really clever because they could remember their lines.  Everything they did looked very realistic.  The train ride was fun and super quick!

Josh - I really liked the show.  It was great that the music was not recorded, that it was played by musicians at the school.  The sound effects and lights were really good.  They were right on time.  You should go and see it.

LITSTEM

Our Year 4’s had their second visit to Kilbreda for our LITSTEM program.

Here's what two of our Year 4 students had to say.

Laylah - this week we were split into different groups and we had to test different liquids to discover what the danger level of acid was in each liquid.  We had to wear special lab coats and safety wear for our experiments.  We had to wear our safetly goggles at all times so we didn't hurt our eyes.  I had an exciting afternoon.

Dash - For the first experiment we put acid into a flask and then we put a metal instrument into it and the acid ate it away. We weren't allowed to smell it or touch it.  It was really exciting to learn about chemical reactions.

CONFIRMATION FAMILY ACTIVITY NIGHT

Our Year 6 students and their parents continued on their Confirmation journey with a Family Activity Night last night. It is always lovely to watch the children and parents discussing and interacting with each other.

Change of Time for our End of Year Assembly - 1:30pm Friday 15 December

Our End of Year Assembly time has changed as I felt we needed more time to celebrate the successes of our 2023 School.  It will now run from 1:30pm to 2:45pm.  At 3:00pm we will gather to clap out our Year 6 Graduating class. Please mark this time and date in your diary!

St Brigid's Annual Book Fair

We really looking forward to our annual Book Fair next week.  The Book Week from Monday 14th to Thursday 17th of August in the Performing Arts Room.  The Book Fair will be open from 8:15am to 8:45am in the morning and from 3:15pm to 3:45pm in the afternoon.  A big thank you to Glenn for organising this year's Book Fair.  I know how much our students look forward to it each year and it helps us by way of rewards we can use to pur new books for our library!

We would love some parent helpers to assist with the Book Fair both before and after school.  If you can help please email Glenn in the library - gstewart@sbmord.catholic.edu.au or call the office.
