Leadership's Letter
Faith & Charism
On behalf of the Year 10 students, Mrs Hale, Mr Miller, Mr Grosso and the Faith & Charism team, I would like to thank all the staff, students and families who again generously donated a huge amount of food for Oblate Street Charity “Rosies”, St. Leonard’s Parish foodbank and for St. Vincent De Paul shop on Springvale Road.
The Year 10 students participated in their annual faith day on Monday 17th July and the theme for the day was “Finding Jesus in the faces of the poor”. During the day the students celebrated Mass, had a presentation from Fr Sholto Douglas OMI about his work on the missions in Zimbabwe, had a presentation from ARIA Winning Artist Adrian Eagle from Jesuit Social Services who shared his experience of homelessness with a message of positivity and spent time sorting out all the donations into boxes and preparing the donations to be distributed to the two charities.
On Friday 8th September, the Year 10 students can volunteer to take part in the Winter Sleepout which will take place in the Year 7 area of the College. Students stay overnight and participate in groupwork, and presentations related to the Oblate Charism of St. Eugene De Mazenod and grow in appreciation of our Catholic commitment to the poor and needy. During the evening students will work with the student leaders and the youth ministers through activities to raise awareness of homelessness. The event will end at 8:30pm Saturday 9th September, with breakfast.
A big thank you to the staff who are helping on the evening, to Fr Harry Dyer OMI and Fr Kevin Davine OMI, Ms Giacco, Mrs Russo and Mr Hunter for assisting in the organisation of the evening and a special word of appreciation to our guest speakers from St. Vincent De Paul and St. Leonards and to Mr Hoad who will speak about our Oblate Street Charity “Rosies”. Also, a big thanks to Mr Tony Rolfe and Mr De La Zilwa who are helping with the food, and a very special thanks to the parents who are helping prepare the food.
Please encourage the Year 10 students to volunteer for this very rewarding experience. Below you will see the enormous amount of donations collected from our winter appeal. Also a big thank you to those who made financial donations.
It was a great pleasure for the Faith & Charism team to host students from other faith schools and the Building Bridges facilitators. A huge thank you to Mrs Russo for organising the event and to the students who assisted on the evening.
For Year 10 student's parents, guardians and carers:
The senior Religious Education pathways offered to Year 10 students for subject selection were presented in each of the Religious Education classes by Mr Tighe last week and this week, to assist students to find the pathway suitable to their future goals.
All parents of Year 10 students have received a letter outlining the upcoming cumulative test that will take place on Monday evening August 21st from 2.40pm until 4.00pm.
This test is compulsory for all Year 10 students as it is an official Mazcom examination and will appear as a module outcome result on student reports at the end of Semester 2. Please refer to the letter for important information regarding the test.
If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact Mr Tighe via email at jtighe@mazenod.vic.edu.au
Many thanks,
Mr John Tighe
