Around The College

Around the Library

Hi! On behalf of the library team, Hibah and I would like to share recent events in the library.

Last week we had our library semester party, a celebration of all our hard work and an opportunity to present badges to our new monitors. The party, as always, was a great success and we hope everyone enjoyed it as much as we did.  We hold the parties in the library to thank our monitors for contributing so much of their time to the library. The library staff are very grateful for all the work that is done by the library monitors, and the school community is very lucky to have such amazing individuals volunteering their time.

We also use our semester parties to thank the library staff for overseeing library operations and making all the events that take place in the library possible. Without them we wouldn't be able to run awesome events in the library for Community and House days. We also thank them for making the Library Monitor program possible for all students that want to contribute to the school community and engage in one of the busiest shared spaces in the school.

Our next major event in the library is a celebration of Book Week during August. There will be a Scavenger Hunt, a Spelling Bee, and Blind Date with a Book running from 21st to 24th August, culminating in a themed dress up party on Friday 25th August.  We can't wait to share the upcoming library events with the community. As always, the library welcomes everyone and if you're ever interested in joining the monitor program please don’t hesitate to ask.

Ono Senior High School Visit Brentwood

On Friday 28th of July, 22 students and three teachers from our Japanese Sister School, Ono Senior High School, arrived at Brentwood for a 12 day visit. A welcome ceremony was held to introduce the Ono students to their host families and hear speeches from representatives from both schools.

Through this homestay opportunity, students have enjoyed visits to Sovereign Hill and Healesville Sanctuary, participated in fun school activities, including making ANZAC biscuits, painting native flowers, playing AFL and practising their English language skills.

Homestay families have enjoyed learning about Japanese culture and sharing the Australian way of life with their exchange students.

This Sister school relationship is celebrating its 26th year this year and we look forward to giving Brentwood students the opportunity to visit Ono Senior High School in 2024. Stay tuned!

Year 7 ASPIRE

On Tuesday (25/07), during ASPIRE, members of the peer support team, ran activities for the year 7s. We ran a kahoot which was on general Brentwood information and also included some general trivia. For this activity, they had to work in teams, which demonstrated, their amazing teamwork with each other. Next we played four corners, and the year 7's definitely had some interesting opinions regarding each of the prompts. Overall, it was interesting to observe how the relationship between the students has evolved over the last 7 months, and how they have become more open with each other, as well as successfully settling into to school.
