WHAT’S HAPPENING IN YEAR 2 Term 3 Weeks 5 & 6 |
LITERACY:
Reading - When reading, we are focusing on identifying the cause and effect in a text as well as making inferences about the weather, using the author's language. Week 6 will focus on tuning into interesting words and making inferences about the time of day using the author's language.
Writing - We are continuing to write narratives this term. Weeks 5 and 6 will have us learning to use words that help the reader understand our message. We will be working on choosing nouns, adjectives and adverbs that bring our writing to life. When editing we will be looking at using capital letters at the start of sentences and for the name of people and places. As well as using full stops, exclamation marks, and question marks to signal the end of a sentence.
Spelling - To read, write and spell words with the ed/t/ and ed/ud/ grapheme (sound) is our focus in weeks 5 & 6.
MATH: We are continuing to focus on addition and subtraction, in particular Identifying fact families. When exploring shape we are looking at how many edges, corners and faces a shape has.
INQUIRY: This term we are exploring the area of Science. In week 5 we are off to our day camp at the Briars. Week 6 will see us making butter in the classroom.
WELLBEING: Students identify and describe personal interests, skills and achievements and reflect on how these might contribute to school or family life.
HOMEWORK: Homework expectations are that students are completing home reading (at least every school night) and filling out their reading diary. Remember each student is aiming to get 200 nights of reading across the year to get a ticket to the Pizza Party! A reminder that your child also has a log in to mathseeds which they can access from home should they wish.
REMINDERS:
- Year 2 sport Tuesday afternoons.
- Friday 11th August Grade 2 Day Camp at the Briars.
- A gentle reminder that we discourage students bringing special toys, games, items etc to school due to the possibility of them getting lost or damaged. It is very upsetting to all when this happens. We like to remind students that if it is extra special, then it's best to leave it safely at home!
Our Mascots
Our Mascots are heading to your homes again during term 3. Bessy is going home with the children in 2MD and Bob is going home with the children in 2W. They will come home on a Wednesday and are expected to be returned on the following Monday. We have loved seeing what the mascots have been up to with the children so far and have seen some amazing handwriting from the children that they have then read and shared with their classes.
CONTACT: Please feel free to get in contact with your child’s classroom teacher/s via their emails below.
