Literacy News
Dear St Cecilia's School parents,
This year, our community is embarking on a magical adventure for one incredible cause this August… and you’re invited to join us! The MS Readathon is a one-month reading challenge that challenges students to read as many books as they can and raise funds for families living with MS. Whether you’ve already registered, or if you’re yet to sign up, hit the link below to join our school page for the MS Readathon and get ready for the adventure of 2023! https://www.msreadathon.org.au/fundraisers/StCeciliasSchool
With thanks to Aveline in Year 3 for suggesting this wonderful community initiative for our school.
Book Week 2023 - Read, Grow Inspire
Here are the Book Week plans for this term.
Book Week is in Week 7 Monday 21st August and the theme is Read, Grow Inspire.
During this week we will have:
- Mystery readers in the classrooms
- A parade on Friday 25th of August at 9am
- Teachers will be running activities in their classrooms based on the nominated books
- In Week 6 on Wednesday 16th August Tim Harris, an author will speak to the children about his books and how and where he gets his ideas.
- Also during Week 6, on Friday 18th August we will have a Book Swap. In the weeks preceding the children will be asked to donate preloved books to our Book swap. On the day of the Book swap the children will be asked to donate a gold coin which will allow them to choose a book to take home. All money raised will be donated to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation who give new books to remote communities and they also have community publishing projects where they write and publish books in their own Indigenous languages.
We are really looking forward to celebrating this wonderful event with everyone.
