NAPLAN update

NAPLAN tests were delivered to Year 3 and 5 students in March this year. Individual student reports were sent home this week (via post).  Please contact the Office if you have not received the report. There have been some changes to the analysis of the results.

From 2023, new standards were introduced to NAPLAN reporting. This reporting replaces the numerical NAPLAN reporting bands and national minimum standards. Education ministers agreed 2023 was the right time to introduce this change alongside moving NAPLAN to March.

Proficiency standards provide clear information on student achievement. They are set at a challenging but reasonable level expected for the child at the time of NAPLAN testing, based mainly on what has been taught in previous years of schooling.

There are 4 proficiency levels:

  • Exceeding: The student's result exceeds expectations at the time of testing.
  • Strong: The student's result meets challenging but reasonable expectations at the time of testing.
  • Developing: The student's result indicates that they are working towards expectations at the time of testing.
  • Needs additional support: The student's result indicates that they are not achieving the learning outcomes expected at the time of testing. They are likely to need additional support to progress satisfactorily.

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD)

The NCCD is an annual collection of information about Australian school students who are receiving adjustments because of disability.

  • For the NCCD, schools count the number of students receiving adjustments because of disability and make decisions about the level of adjustment being provided for each student with disability.
  • Schools provide NCCD information to education authorities and the Australian Government Department of Education.
  • For the NCCD, school teams must have evidence to show that they have followed the Standards processes.

Year 2 Experience

As part of our progressive Camp Program, the Year 2 students will participate in a Year 2 Experience on Friday 11 August. Students will travel by bus to Activate by Hardrock in Moorabbin and then to Balwyn Park. At Activate by Hardrock, students will participate in age appropriate and 'challenge by choice' activities such as: clip & climb, the vertical drop slide and the leap of faith.

Please note that due to playground renovations at Karkarook Park, the lunch venue has changed to Balwyn Park.

Students will then walk from Balwyn Park to the Palace Balwyn Cinema. A private cinema has been booked to watch a PG rated Disney movie. The students will enjoy a small box of popcorn, a lolly bag and a juice or water.

At 6pm, students will need to be picked up by a parent/guardian from Palace Balwyn Cinema (231 Whitehorse Rd, Balwyn).

Students will need to wear their sports uniform and provide their own play lunch and water bottle for the day in a small carry bag. Lunch, afternoon tea and a lolly bag will be provided.

Please ensure your child's medical eform details and (MACS Medication Authority Form) is updated on Operoo.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your classroom teacher.
