Learning, growing and celebrating together...

Dear Sacred Heart Kew Families,

Being a Grandparent equals a licence to spoil. Our lives are richer for their presence.

This morning, we celebrated Grandparents and Special Friends Day, one of the more significant events on our school calendar. It was a beautiful occasion that holds a special place in my heart, as I am sure it does for many others. It is a day dedicated to honouring and celebrating the wisdom, love, and guidance that grandparents bestow upon us. As I reflect upon this day, it brings back cherished memories of the wonderful relationship I had with my own grandparents, growing up.

Growing up, my grandparents were an integral part of my life. They were always there to offer unconditional love and support, and their presence brought a great sense of comfort and security to me. My grandparents had a unique way of sharing their life experiences and stories, imparting valuable life lessons to me along the way. As a child, I may not have fully understood the significance of these moments, but as I matured, I realised the profound impact that my grandparents had on shaping my character and values, through their acts of love, kindness and care.

We all know that Grandparents possess a wealth of knowledge that extends well beyond that found in those dusty old books. Their life journeys are filled with valuable insights, forged through both joys and hardships. As we listen to their stories, hearing of their struggles and triumphs, these experiences serve as a source of inspiration, encouraging us to face our challenges with perseverance, reminding us to appreciate the many blessings we have in our life.

One of the most beautiful aspects of Grandparents and Special Friends Day is the opportunity for our children to spend some quality time with these cherished individuals, in their school bubble. This morning our children were so chuffed to be able to show off their school and classroom, their work, their teachers and friends. You could see the immense pride and joy on the faces of our Grandparents and Special Friends, as they watched and listened to our youngsters speak about their school life. In these moments and conversation, the fast paced nature of our world seemed to slow down, as love took over, blocking everything else out.

I consider it a great privilege watching our children and their Grandparents and Special Friends interact, as one watches unconditional love, respect and admiration play out. As I grew older, I only now truly comprehend the importance of these special moments, as sadly, like many others, my grandparents are no longer in my life, but their memories live on in my heart and mind. It's only in these observable moments each year that I am reminded of how fortunate I was to have had their presence in my life, as I grew up.

At Mass, we heard two heartfelt recounts of why Grandparents are so special. We listened to grateful young minds explaining the wisdom that they have received through cherished family moments (which even included tips and examples of varying levels of spoiledness). Yet another privileged opportunity for us all to share. At Morning Tea, it dawned on me that above all else, Grandparents and Special Friends Day serves as a poignant reminder of the profound impact that grandparents have on our lives. Their love, support, and wisdom are gifts that transcend time, shaping who we are and who we aspire to be. Let us celebrate our Grandparents and Special Friends every day, with gratitude and affection, acknowledging the beautiful connections that span generations and make us who we are today. Thanks to everyone who was able to attend this morning. I hope that you all enjoyed your time together. We loved welcoming you to our school and look forward to seeing you again very soon.

Wishing everyone a lovely weekend.

Kind Regards,
