High Ability Program
As a part of our Extension and High Ability Program, some of our budding Langwarrin Park Grade 4-6 writers were involved in two G.A.T.E.WAYS Literacy workshops.
Students worked with author Rachel Holkner, to investigate Steampunk - a genre of writing that uses the nuances of Victorian England and early Industrial Revolution inventions to create an imagined reality, before the invention of internal combustion engines. Cogs, gears and the power of steam drive this fantastical world of brass contraptions and convoluted gizmos, all with the sensibilities and social graces that create contrasting characters. The students learned about the times, adapted these quirky mechanics and then wrote pieces that emulated the genre.
In the second workshop, our students took a tour through the works of famous writers - authors like Dostoyevsky, Pound and Poe. They investigated a writing technique that was structured around their chosen author's style (tone, pace, tension, etc) and created pieces of their own. The students found that these authors’ curious minds created curious works... but that each author had a unique personal voice - as they do too!
Our Extension and High Ability Program will continue next week with a G.A.T.E.WAYS Extreme Maths incursion.
Year 1
The Year 1's participated in swimming lessons throughout week 3. They had so much fun and it was great to see such big smiles on their faces.
This week we have been exploring a new writing genre: Procedure. Students made sock puppets ensuring they had all the materials and followed the steps in order to make their cat puppets.
THANK YOU!
A huge thank you to The Seed Collection from Ms Hopper for your generous donation of seeds. These will be propagated and grown by our students in our Patch.
