From the Principal
I have previously spoken about building a school culture that is focused around 'family'. I consider Langwarrin Park Primary School to be a family and we are focused on instilling a strong set of values that build the best possible child.
This was so clearly evident at our Foundation '100 Days of School' and Grandparents Day on Wednesday afternoon. The positive energy that was in the school for this was event massive! It was so lovely to see all our Grandparents and special friends being shown around the school by their excited grandkids! What a strong sense of family there was across the afternoon! I would like to thank our Foundation team for organising such a wonderful school event.
Mid-Term Update
As I have previously informed our community about, we have a number of whole school teaching and learning and wellbeing priorities. Some of our work and impact have focused on:
- Continued emphasis on the Numeracy assessment PLC teams use to identify student achievement and then to monitor student growth.
- PLCs using the data that has been collected to focus their professional learning; and so, they have greatest possible growth on all students.
- Teachers engaging with different Berry St strategies to ensure students are well regulated (emotionally).
- Teachers engaging with the THRIVE behaviour management frameworks within their classrooms.
Our NAPLAN data has reinforced the message that we are allocating all our human, physical and financial resources in the correct areas. Our number one priority is that all our work is on positively impacting upon student outcomes and having the wellbeing of all students looked after.
Compass
Just a reminder that if you haven't already done so, to set up your Compass parent account. I sent emails out last Friday where you could do this. If you require any assistance with setting this up, please contact me. Compass will be replacing Sentral and at the initial stages it will be used for notifying student absences. Our next step will be then to use Compass to pay for school activities. I will keep you updated with timelines around this.
Curriculum Day
Just a reminder that next Friday is a curriculum day (student free day). On this day all staff will be involved in the final day of Berry St training. If you require child minding on this day, Camp Australia will be in operation.
Teacher Shortages
Currently there is a chronic shortage of short-term teacher replacements. As a school we have clear processes around how we manage the replacement of teachers. If we are unable to source a teacher replacement the grade will be either split into other classes from the year level or be covered by an existing staff member (specialists). Our absolute priority is to create the least amount of disruption on classroom programs, however on occasions it is out of our control in providing a replacement.
I thank everyone in our school community for their ongoing support and making our school such a great one!
Take care everyone,
Richard
