JUNIOR SCHOOL NEWS

Jacob Storer & Rebecca Durran

Year 7  & 8 Coordinators

It has been a very busy period in the Junior Sub School of late, with plenty going on to keep us on our toes.

Year 8 Camp

The Year 8 students had a terrific time on Camp in Halls Gap. It was a great experience for them, spending time in one of the more beautiful parts of the state. While there, they had the opportunity to take part in:

  • A bush walk to Boronia Peak
  • Initiatives and team building activities
  • Abseiling and rock climbing
  • Indigenous cultural experience at Brambuk Cultural Centre

What was most impressive, was the enthusiasm and spirit shown by all students. It was fantastic to see the effort everyone put into activities, well and truly out of their comfort zone (especially with the icy weather!). We hope that the skills learnt on this camp will translate into the school community and we see a strong finish to the year.

A big shout out to the Year 8 Team; Rebecca Durran, Bennett Thomson, Daniel Grozdanovski, and Steve Quinn for their amazing work behind the scenes to organise such a fantastic camp.

Year 7 Deakin Excursion

Over the course of August 22 and 23, Year 7 students got their first taste of the University pathway, visiting Deakin University in Waurn Ponds. The students participated in the Mission Possible activity and got the chance to sample some of the courses offered at the Uni, including Architecture, Engineering and Psychology.

The students represented the College wonderfully and were very enthusiastic to participate in all activities.

Year 7 Excursions

It doesn’t stop there for the Year 7 students though, with some more excursions coming up in the Big Smoke. Next Friday, 30 August, they will make their way to the Melbourne Zoo as part of their science curriculum.

Then to start next term, we will all be heading to the National Gallery of Victoria to immerse ourselves in Ancient Chinese culture and see the famed Terracotta Army. This will be a part of our Humanities curriculum, as we dive deeper into our Ancient China Unit.

Keep an eye out for more exciting happenings at NGSC as we rocket towards the pointy end of the year.

Important Notice

Re: Excursion Process

Please remember to meet the school timelines for excursion permissions and payments. These processes are designed to facilitate good management around transport, staffing, medical needs and event access. Any lateness with permissions/payments creates stress to the process and will no longer be accepted. Students who do not meet timelines will be provided with a program at school on the day of the activity.
