Year 4/5 Surf Safety
Over the last 2 days, year 4/5 students have participated in the Surf Education program run by Surf Life Saving SA at Largs Bay Beach. The weather was fantastic. Students were educated about beach characteristics, basic rescue skills, running, wading, swimming, paddling and wave catching.
Reconciliation Relay
On Monday, Week 5, Largs Bay School took part in the Reconciliation relay. This is an event initiated by the Port/Enfield Council to enable reconciliation concepts to be shared across the community.
The message stick is very important in traditional Aboriginal culture. When people from one tribal area were travelling to another area they would take a message stick with them. Each tribal group would have their own message stick. This would mean that they come in peace. The message stick is transferred across council to different schools and presented as a message that we are also coming in peace.
The person who holds the message stick is the person who has the right to speak. All others must stay quiet and listen. Each school makes a contribution to Reconciliation and places it in the box where presentation to a group of Kaurna elders will occur later in the process.
Our School’s contribution to the Message Box is one of the signs we have produced for our school doors and entry way with the phrase, “Ninna Marni Learning on Kaurna Land”.
Two representatives from Reconciliation SA, Mark and Samarah, also visited us on Monday. They were able to see our Kuranye Metitya Dreaming Garden and talk about our contributions to reconciliation as a whole school. Erin and Rebecca talked with them and showed our story of Reconciliation on the Snake head. They will be writing an article for the Reconciliation SA newsletter. Two representatives from Ocean View College presented the Message Stick and Box, with their contribution to us. Saraiya and Cameron went to LeFevre Primary School to deliver the message stick and box, with our contribution.
While the Message Stick was here, Saraiya, Cameron, Airlie and Cooper took the items to some classes to show and talk about the Message Stick and the importance of continuing our journey of reconciliation.

Thanks to Ian Burge for coaching the A Grade and Simon Hill for coaching the C Grade.
The term 4 Kanga teams have had a lot of fun, thanks to Stewart McGaffin, Mark and Lisa Shetlat.
Thank you to all of the parents who have supported the teams with support with coaching, managing, scoring and supervising.
The C-Grade Cricket Team has been a joy to coach this year. The boys dedication, persistence and effort has seen skill levels improve weekly.
Their sporting conduct and character in winning and losing was also commendable. The boys are to be congratulated for an undefeated term 4!
I would also like to thank parents for their support and attendance at training and games.

Basketball
After a long year (all 4 terms), the after-school basketball competition came to a conclusion last Thursday. The year 4/5’s played off in the grand final but lost to a very good team who was undefeated throughout the term. Thanks to all of the coaches, parents and managers who supported the teams throughout the year, including Rosemary Leal, Nicole Wood, Noeleen Tamatoa, Caroline Cowen and Maggie McInerney. A really special thanks to Vanessa Eddy-Kerr who has supported our basketball programme for many years as a coach/manager.
After-School Sports Thank You
Thank-you to everyone over the year who has supported our after-school sports programme.
Over 250 students participated in the various after-school sport programmes throughout the year. Without the support of families these opportunities would not be possible.

ProcedureElla - Room 10
Aim:
To create a lava -lamp in order to see what happens when substances are mixed.
Materials and Equipment:
· 1 glass
· 1 asprin tablet
· 1 drop of food dye
· ¾ of a cup of oil
· ¼ of a cup of water
Method:
1) Fill your glass ¼ of the way full with water
2) Pour oil into the cup ¾ of the way full
3) Drop 1 drop of food dye into your cup
4) Observe what happens when the food dye is dropped into the cup
5) When the dye is in the water drop 1 asprin tablet
6) Observe what happens when the asprin tablet is added to the oil and water
7) Write down your observations
Observation:
After we had added all the ingredients together the asprin tablet started to fizz and turned the glass into a whole lot of bubbles. When the ingredients calmed down the bubbles would float to the top, then sit there for a few minutes and suddenly pop and sink back down to the bottom because the layer of gas that was covering the water is not there anymore and water is more dense than oil so it sunk immediately. Conclusion:
In this experiment my hypothesis was correct. I was correct about how the asprin tablet was going to react in the oil, but I was wrong because I thought the water would sit on top of the oil instead of under it, I thought oil was denser than water. Although I was wrong I did reach my aim and that was to make the cup look like a proper lava lamp, and to understand how immiscible liquids react to each other.
Congratulations
We have many students at Largs Bay who excel in a number of fields both in and out of school. A perfect example is Brooke & Ebony who perform in a cheerleading team. A few weekends ago, they performed their Level 2 cheerleading routine in Melbourne for the AASCF (Australian All Star Cheerleading Federation) National Awards. Ebony performed a Dual Base & a Partner Stunt routine, which saw Ebony & her team place 2nd out of the whole of Australia. The girls’ team of 12 performed their group routine on the following day and placed 1st out of 13 teams from all over Australia & New Zealand. Their routine was apparently flawless and received Zero Deductions from the team of judges!!Both girls have worked so hard and this is an amazing result. Well done!!!!
