The end of the school year is nearing and some events are coming up; the Year 9 camp to Tasmania and Remembrance Day.
Events that happened recently were the Year 12 students vs Teachers footy game and October Arts Festival winners.
Year 9 Tasmania camp is coming up soon and there is now an Itinerary on Compass for the students and parents to view. The Itinerary covers arrival and departure times, travel information, a list of what to bring and baggage requirements.
Remembrance Day is on Sunday 11 November. In conjunction with ARK Theatre, the Lilydale RSL would like to invite the local community to attend a commemorative event at Lilydale High School. From 2 pm, on Sunday 11 November, the RSL will be remembering the men and women of the Yarra Valley who served our nation during the First World War, both overseas and on the home front.
There are multiple competitions being held at school at the moment; Name the ‘School Chooks’ and design the black, back wall of the Library.
There are photos and an entry box at the Main Office for anyone who has some creative names for the newly introduced LHS chickens.
All year levels are encouraged to enter the competition to design a mural for wall in the Library. Your design needs to include a reference to the Library and reading, either through images or through quotes. Submit your creative ideas to the Library or Ms Hardy by Friday 9 November.
On Tuesday 23 October, the Year 12 students played against the teachers in a football match. Everyone came down to support the Year 12s and teachers! There were some impressive skills from both students and teachers; like Mr Blaxland in the ruck and Ms Cummings run with a bounce. Unfortunately, the teachers came away with a firm victory over the Year 12s.
The October Arts Exhibition has announced the winners and we would like to congratulate everyone on their spectacular artworks from drawing, painting, photography and designs. We would like to say a special congratulations to Caitlyn Serong 9C, Abbie Chamberlain 9J for the Best Middle School Art Work and Kayla Peterson 9M, for Best Ceramic Piece.
Zac Hoiles and Sophie Mastaing
On a sunny, Friday 12 October, our Year 10 students had their Formal. This year we were lucky enough to have it held at a new venue, Linley Estate, Kilsyth, which was a lovely formal venue and it was absolutely stunning. It was fantastic to see everyone arrive in a host of fancy cars and getting some great photos alongside them.
To kick the night off, all attendees enjoyed a delicious fancy, three course sit down meal. The night was a great opportunity for everyone to dress up, have a dance and make some wonderful memories.
Thanks to our resident photographer Ms Walton, we were lucky to have many photos taken throughout the night so we may remember this amazing night.
Thanks to our amazing DJ Karl, for providing awesome music and allowing us to let our hair down and create many memories.
This night would not have been possible without so many people. We would like to thank all the incredible staff at Linley Estate for being so accommodating and making this such an all-around amazing night.
A big thank you to the teachers that attended, the Formal committee who have helped from the beginning and the Middle School Coordinators who helped run the night.
We would also like the thank the Principal team for their continued support and joining us on the night too.
A special thanks to Ms Nevins and Ms Kelso who did so much work to organise the whole night. We really appreciate all the hard work of all involved.
With Formal down, now we’re all looking ahead to next year and starting to get excited about our Year 11 Presentation Ball.
We hope everyone enjoys the rest of Term 4 and we’re all very eager to see what the rest of the year holds.

Lily Black and Ethan Carroll
Just a reminder to all students that the expectation is that everybody is in full school uniform at all times. As the end of the school year draws closer, there is no reason that this should change.
Please ensure that you are in the correct socks and shoes. NO ‘hoodies’ are to be worn at school and undershirts should not be visible.
Well done to those who always adhere to the school uniform policy.
In an effort to finalise UNAPPROVED STUDENT ABSENCES for 2018, we require parents/guardians to please log on to Compass and approve absences that your child may have outstanding.
If you need any assistance, please don’t hesitate to call Lauren Kelso in the Middle School Office and she will approve the absences for you.
