WELCOME TO JUNIOR SCHOOL!

For some of you it is Welcome to Junior School! For others, it is welcome back! Either way we are delighted to have your child in our classes this year!

The staff are currently as follows:

Junior A - Ms Hubbard

Junior B - Mrs Black

With support from Rhonda and Wendy.

We have made an exciting start to the 2019 school year and all the students are getting the hang of our new routines.

Get to Know you Week.

The first 3 days were busy and full of get to know you activities. We learned a lot more about each other when we chatted about our holidays, went on a person scavenger hunt and wrote postcards. Both classes looked at what it is to be a 5 STAR learner and we created posters of ourselves with different ways we can be a 5 STAR learner. This encourages us to try our hardest in order to be the best we can be. We also looked at what it takes to be a 5 STAR teacher as well and the students had plenty of ideas on how the teachers can show our school values!

The school values at KPS are very important to us and it has been fantastic to see the students have remembered these from last year and are still so enthusiastic about showing Excellence, Resilience and Respect. We did a few activities around these value and what they look like in our classrooms.

Healthy Eating

In Junior School this week and next, we are looking at healthy eating and 'What's In Our Lunch boxes'. This week we had great fun chopping up all the supermarket junk mail and choosing foods that are GREEN (eating everyday), AMBER (a couple of times a week) and RED (special occasions/rarely). The students had great conversations about what sort of foods they LOVE and what sort of foods they should eat everyday. Next week we are looking at drawing our healthy dream lunch for school. I wonder what they will put in their lunch boxes. Please pop past the classroom on Wednesday next week and take a look at their dream healthy lunchbox ideas.

Junior Sport

Thursday is Junior Sport Day! We are so lucky to be joined by Mr Wright....our PE teacher, for Junior Sport. We are really looking forward to playing some fun games as well as using the time to practise the skills we learn in our PE class. Today we played Rob the Nest! It was great fun! We had a chance to steal beanbags from different groups and see who has the most at the end of the game. It was a hot day and we all needed a drink to cool off, but it was SO MUCH FUN!!

Reminders:

HOMEWORK: Homework has started for Year 2 students. Each week they will take home their homework books and it is DUE BACK every Monday morning. This homework will not take too long to do each week. Please encourage your child to bring it back each Monday. Year 1 will begin homework in Term 3.

HOME READING: Every student in Junior school needs to read nightly, to an adult for at least 10 mintues. This may be to help them build their reading strategies, or comprehension skills or even just for pleasure! Students will bring home and change their take home books daily. Please record their reading in their diary on the day you read together. We check these every morning. If you have any questions about what your child should be reading please feel free to chat with your classroom teacher. Students doing the LLI program can write the books they read at home as part of their LLI homework as their nightly reading.
