Exciting Times!

Term 1 has kicked off and we are super excited.  The students have settled in well with lots of chatter and hype about our school day.  Full time days from now on in with WEDNESDAYS off for one-on-one assessments.

Please remember that you have TWO assessments. One in February and one in March.  The first one is an English assessment and the second one is a Maths assessment. I'm really looking forward to getting to know you and your child. This is an exciting time with lots of emotions as your child begins their journey through school. Please know that you can always make a time to see me if you wish to discuss your child.  My email is blackburn.blair.j@edumail.vic.gov.au

We are learning to...

So much to begin with!

Reading - getting our book boxes sorted with books that are just right for us! Selecting books we enjoy and can talk about.  The process of reading begins with identifying letters and words and knowing the direction of reading from left to right.

Writing - we are developing our fine motor skills with holding our pencils properly, using various writing stimulus and activities where we use our fingers.  We have begun writing our name and exploring what good writers do.

Maths - we've begun the counting sequence! I'm impressed with students knowledge of numbers. We are looking at the number sequence forwards and backwards to 10! We will be looking at sets of numbers and working out which has more and which has less.

Personal & Social - We have been learning about Positive Behaviour Support. We have a school matrix which outlines our expectations and school values - Excellence, Resilience and  Respect. The students are doing a great job at showings ways they can model those expectations. This is also great language that you can use with them at home for consistency.

Excursions

Stay tuned for information on Sentral regarding our upcoming excursion to the MELBOURNE ZOO.  The date for this is Thursday 14th March.  If you would like to come on the bus with us to the excursion please let me know.  Unfortunately we don't recommend that toddlers come with us.  This excursion will cost approx $30.

Excited!

Thank you once again for choosing Kilsyth as your preferred school for your child's education. We look forward to the year head and seeing your baby grow and develop in so many ways.
