SENIOR SCHOOL NEWS

Aaron Milsome

Year 11 Coordinator

We are now past the half-way mark for term one. The transition from Middle School to Senior School has presented many challenges for students, particularly the workload. The expectations of meeting weekly deadlines for not only subject readings but submitting work has required a change in study habits. Students are beginning to submit and sit various school assessed coursework (SAC) and tasks (SAT) for their subjects and receive valuable feedback from teachers. Many students are also undertaking vocational education and training (VET) within the College whilst others leave the College on set days to various locations around Geelong.

A reminder to all students that if you’re struggling with adapting your study habits, please visit your Sub-school and speak to your Year Level Coordinator (YLC), Year Level Assistant (YLCA), Sub School Manager (SSM) and our dedicated careers team, Ms. Makin and Ms. Astles. We’re here to help. Sending an email is also a great way to communicate if you’re unable to get to a Sub-School Office. Students should also read the various study strategies in the College diary. There may be one or many that could be of benefit.

Progress reports were made available on Compass last week. Students should be proud of their efforts at the start of the academic year. This is also a great opportunity for parents and guardians to discuss the progress of your child. If you have any concerns about their progress, please contact the appropriate YLC or YLCA.

Thanks to all the parents who attended our ‘meet the VCE teachers’ evening. It was pleasing to see so many parents and hear the positive conversations that support improving outcomes for our students.

Student Representative Council (SRC) students met for the first time this year and have already begun to plan many exciting College activities and major events. The SRC is led by our College captains Angela Peric and Ayden Osborne, and supported by Tara Briggs (Academic), Seb Milla Lemus (Arts), Karma Grootveld (Cultural/Community) and Hayley Bath (Sports). Year eleven SRC students are Jess Tidd, Mitchell Cazaly (joint year level captains), Jack Wirata, Keily McKee, Callum Gooch, Sophie Lawless, Georgia Kitchen, Kara Everitt, Izzy Massey, Edita Salcinovic, Tom Gardner, Stefan Javni and Soe Mer. The SRC is a great way for students to build their leadership skills.
