In attendance at the School Opening Ceremony on Friday 17 April, will be the Mayor of the Yarra Ranges, Maria McCarthy, the Presidents of local RSLs, local primary school representatives and the wider community. Also in attendance will be Ralph’s family who attended Lilydale High School.
The mural follows the story of Ralph Goode, the first man in Lilydale to enlist (as a stretcher bearer) who was at the Gallipoli landing, went on to the Western Front and, on return to Lilydale, was influential in the local community. There is an interactive element to the mural using an app called Aurasma to engage students and the wider community in Ralph’s story and that of other veterans.
Please download the app for your smartphone from http://www.aurasma.com/#/get-the-app prior to your attendance on the day.
To RSVP for either or both of the events, please register here or from the school website homepage.
If you plan to come to both ceremonies, please add one to your basket and then go back and add the other event.
WW1 ANCESTOR STORIES Wanted Your Family's Story
Do you have a male or female ancestor who was involved in World War 1? Then we want your family’s story!
As a part of the World War 1 Centenary Mural, we are creating a website with educational materials for students. Although our mural will follow the story of one digger, Ralph Goode, we are including stories from the wider school community.
What can you do? Put together a digital document (word/pages file or powerpoint/keynote file) with a
brief biography of your ancestor. You can include photos of the person, their medals, transcripts of diaries or letters or any information that you feel is relevant to telling the story of your ancestor.
Send the digital document to the school email address lilydale.hs@edumail.vic.gov.au with 'WW1 Ancestor Story' in the subject line and we will include your family’s story on our dedicated World War 1 Mural website.
