READING CHALLENGE

2019 Premiers’ Reading Challenge

& LHS Reading Challenge

Each year the Library and English Key Learning Area enrol all of the Year 7s in the Premiers’ Reading Challenge.  Additionally, our Year 8, 9 and 10 SEAL classes were enrolled as a component of their English curriculum this year.

Students were set two challenges:

To achieve the Premiers’ Reading Challenge; students had to read 15+ books (10 of these from a prescribed list of books produced by the Education Department).

To achieve the Lilydale High School Reading Challenge; students had to read 10+ books of their own choice.

During the challenges, students were required to log their reading progress on the Premiers’ Reading Challenge website.

Many of our students and their teachers took on the challenge with great enthusiasm.  Teachers could see the weekly reading progress of their students, students received progression stickers as encouragement to keep reading, and Home Group progress was marked on a display in the Library.

Wednesday 4 September, marked the conclusion of the reading challenges.

This year Lilydale High School performed very well;

  • Students read over 7,500 books
  • 161 students achieved both the Premiers’ AND Lilydale High School Reading Challenges
  • A further 68 students, achieved the Lilydale High School Reading Challenge
  • 8 students read 100+ books
  • 20 students read 50-99 books
  • 30 students read 30-49 books
  • 8A read a whopping 1,356 books
  • 7A read 798 books
  • 7B and 7H read over 500 books

A celebration for students achieving either of the challenges will be held in Term 4, where students will be presented with certificates.

Even though the challenges have now concluded, students are still encouraged to

Read   ……   Read More  ..…  and  …...  Read More Widely
