Year 11 Captains' Report

We've finally reached the end of the term! How quickly did these 10 weeks flash past us? Soon the year will be at an end, with the taste of Spring finally coming around and the bitter cold Winter taking its leave...or so we think, but we all know Melbourne weather, four seasons in one day seems to be all the craze this year.

Despite the drawbacks of Melbourne weather, the pleasant scenery of the cherry blossom trees in full bloom was quite a sight to behold, no matter how fleeting it may have been, giving way to our hopefully bright and sunny Spring.

With each end of the term, we ask everyone to channel their inner Mulan and to take the time to reflect upon everything that has passed and what is still to come (of course, the dramatic singing and makeup is a given). We were given this opportunity in the form of the Three Way Conferences that occurred just before our holidays officially started. This was a chance for many of us to discuss with our teachers the direction that we were going in, and how we have been developing throughout the year. Hopefully lots of questions were asked and that our guardians or parents were given the full details of our progress. This was a time for many of us to reflect and to perhaps rethink our ways on how we plan to move on.

We ask that we all take a look at ourselves and to try our best to not get absorbed by that sinking feeling of doubt and uneasiness as the final exams for many of us approach. It’s OK to have doubts and to be vulnerable at times. It’s OK to make mistakes. It’s OK to be ourselves. While the future may be daunting, there is much more to life that is to come, but it’s all in how we tackle our challenges and how we have the strength to stand back up each time. It’s important that we take care of our mental health and even if we aren’t feeling OK, that at the very least, someone close to us is there to ask “R U OK?”

The SRC celebrated this very idea in our very own celebration of R U OK Day? On the day, there was a wonderful BAKE SALE prepared by the SRC, full of cupcakes and muffins for many to enjoy. Furthermore, there was live music played in the Performing Arts Centre, where everyone was given the chance to talk and hang around in a safe space, with the opportunity to buy official R U OK Day? merchandise. The day was a huge success with many participants and other activities and competitions held.  We would love to give a HUGE THANK YOU to the SRC and teachers who helped to run the event, but most importantly, a thank you to everyone who participated and spread awareness about this very important day.

Finally, a quick reminder to all Year 11 students wishing to go on the Year 12 Retreat next year, to return your medical forms promptly, at the beginning of next term.

We hope you all have a safe and relaxing holidays and come back next term refreshed and ready to smash out our final term of Year 11!

Students will also need to return the Medical Form to the VCE office by Friday 25 October.

All students are expected to attend this valuable camp to give them the best opportunity for success in Year 12.

Please contact the VCE office with any questions regarding the retreat.

Staff Vs Student Volleyball Game

On Wednesday 17 September, many of our Year 12 students took on the staff, in a Volleyball game at lunchtime - with the staff taking out the win.

It was great to see so many students there watching and cheering on.

Study Break

Over the past couple of weeks, VCE students have been provided with homework for their classes to complete over the study break.

Students are reminded to ensure all homework is completed by the start of Term 4, to best prepare them for their final term of 2019.

VCE SACs

A reminder that if your child misses a School Assessed Coursework (SAC) they must get a MEDICAL CERTIFICATE to enable them to sit the SAC in the next available IPT time slot.

Students will not be granted SAC redemption, unless they have a medical certificate or it is a school-approved absence.

If there are extenuating circumstances please let us know and we will make a decision based on the VCAA guidelines.

Once a student has been approved for SAC redemption, they will be required to sit the SAC, the next available time slot.

VCE Attendance

It is a requirement at Lilydale High School, that students attend all timetabled classes so that teaching and learning opportunities can be maximised.

If students have reached their limit, for absences from class, there is an opportunity for this time to be redeemed.  Students can speak to their Year Level Coordinator to discuss making this time up at lunchtime, during afternoon study periods, or after school.

Furthermore, it is a requirement that students attend Home Group, even if they have study periods', Periods 1 + 2.
