The Arts at Oakleigh Grammar

Visual Art

Year 6 students have enjoyed their latest activity so much that many have made time-lapse videos of their art making process. The main topics of focus during this course have included the intersecting ideas of art, science, and the natural world.

Commencing this unit, students were exposed to the study of botanical illustration, and a range of historic and contemporary artists who have created different work inspired by science. To gain confidence in making their own strange plant illustrations, students participated in a series of skill-building activities, teaching them how to transform shape into form through contour lines, tonal variation and hatching using a range of techniques.

These wonderful creations will culminate into a collaborative drawing installation self-managed by the students for display at the Oakleigh Grammar art exhibition.
