One of the main goals of student leadership is team building. There are classes, groups, and friends. They all boost a student’s ability to work as part of a team. At Oakleigh Grammar, being a part of a team and having a leadership responsibility is very important. You all have a role to fulfill.

Last day of Term 1 our “Room 109 Band”, who includes Mr Gridley, Mr Harbis, Angelo Zois and Jordi Thompson organised a fundraiser for Leukaemia Foundation. The goal was to raise $500. The “Room 109 Band” performed during lunchtime in the Conference Centre with a number of students and staff coming to support this worthy cause. Final count was $729.30 and as Mr Gridley promised, he shaved his head!

Congratulations to Angelo and Jordi, as this gig was their initiative. They learned a lot in the process about what it takes to organise an event and work professionally in a band. Huge thanks to everyone who donated.

On Wednesday April 18, SRC Members and Middle School Leaders attended the annual Anzac Service for schools conducted by the Rotary Club of Monash. Students represented our school with pride and paid tribute to those soldiers who lost their lives. Victoria Turewicz and Arthur Millaras laid a wreath on the behalf of Oakleigh Grammar school community.

Selected SRC members and Middle School Leaders had the honour to attend the ANZC Day Parade on Wednesday 25 April. It was a very emotional experience for our students attending this big event and having the opportunity to be around veterans.

After the parade the students were invited to the Hellenic RSL and where they joined the members for lunch. Congratulations to those students who represented Oakleigh Grammar to commemorate the anniversary of this significant day.

Students of Oakleigh Grammar keep very active throughout the year by representing our school in different events with pride.

During the school holidays, students of Oakleigh Grammar were invited by Justice of Cyprus Committee to attend the 63rd anniversary of the struggle of Cypriots to gain freedom from the British Colony. Selected Middle School Leaders and SRC Members attended the liturgy at St Andrews Greek Orthodox Church in Forest Hill. After the liturgy a Doxology the students visited the monument next to church, which was built for those who lost their lives. Efthymia Delichristou laid a wreath at the Memorial on behalf of Oakleigh Grammar.

The students of Mrs Spanos’ Greek Year 6 class had the opportunity to visit Wesley St Mark’s Respite Cottage on Thursday 19 May 2018. Students performed some Greek songs and traditional dances, and extended Easter wishes to elderly people. Well done to students who participated and for their outstanding performance.

Extended congratulations to all students who participated to all these significant events.
