CITY-BAY FUN RUN
With some enthusiastic staff on board we have entered a school team in the CITY-BAY fun run/walk on Sunday September 17th. We are encouraging students and their families to join us in a fun community event that will hopefully improve fitness and encourage our students to make healthy lifestyle choices.
We are also using our CITY-BAY involvement as a fundraising opportunity for the Childhood Cancer Association. The Zischke family (Jack - Reception) have a pre-school aged child with Acute Lymphoplastic Leukaemia and have received great support from the Childhood Cancer Association, especially when they moved from Darwin for treatment. The school would like to raise at least $500 for this wonderful SA based charity.
The City-Bay has options to run or walk 12km, 6km or 3km. Due to the large number of participants it would not be possible for teachers to supervise students during the event. We are encouraging parents/ family to join in with students. Senior students could compete with a friend or solo at their parent’s discretion. We will have designated meeting points at the start of the various distances and a common meeting point at the finish, being the Childhood Cancer Association tent. No special uniform is required but our charity partner encourages participants to wear some yellow.
To get involved head to the CITY-BAY website and register.

SAPSASA CROSS COUNTRY
The annual Port District SAPSASA cross country championships will be held on Tuesday September 12th at Semaphore Surf Lifesaving Club. Largs Bay School were the most successful school last year and we are looking to defend that title in 2017.
This event is open to students that are turning 9 this year (born 2008) and older. Students will need to be able to run 2km non-stop. Trials will be held later in the term during school time but to help prepare we will begin training on Fridays after school and Wednesday lunch times.
Friday training will be at 3:30 – 4:30 pm at the foreshore, meeting at Largs Bay Sailing Club. Students will need to have a parent present, this could be a shared responsibility with another parent. We encourage parents to join in the training with the students, not only does it help with supervision but it sets a fantastic example for your kids. All are welcome – you don’t have to be an ‘athlete’.
