Debating

DAV News
Round Three and Four of the DAV Competition were held at Brighton Grammar over the last month, with the St Bede’s debaters producing some very good results, both individually and within their teams.
Well done to all speakers and mentors, and a special thank you to Simon O’Loughlin from Year 10 for joining the C1 team and assisting them at the last minute in Round 3. Thanks also to Robbie Evans and Sachin Paul for filling in the SBC 2 B Grade team most competently. I think we may have unearthed some hidden talent in years 10 and 11! It is a timely opportunity to remind any student who is interested in this area of extra-curricular activity at St Bede’s to contact me during College hours and express their interest.

Year 7 Debating
During term three the inaugural Year 7 College Debating Challenge will be conducted. The junior boys have been very patient waiting for their opportunity to get involved in debating – and here it is! The Homeroom Challenge 2014 will be launched in the final stages of term 2, with three students from each homeroom being elected to represent their group in a round-robin style competition. Participants in this will be given further opportunity to hone their interest and skills at the forthcoming DAV Junior Training Workshop, held in the later stages of term three. Full details to be released closer to the events. I encourage all interested students to identify themselves to their English subject teacher, or to contact me directly at school, during school hours. Good Luck to all! I look forward to working with some new debaters and adding some juniors to the College Debating Squad for 2015.
