VETDSS AWARDS

The 2022 Sunraysia Careers Network (SCN) VETDSS (Vocational Education and Training Delivered in Secondary Schools) Excellence Awards were held live for the first time since 2019 at the St Joseph’s College Mercy Theatre on Wednesday November 16.

Keynote speaker Katrina Watt, Senior Manager of Education Delivery from SuniTAFE, gave an inspiring delivery on the importance of VET education and how it assists students in carving career pathways in various industry sectors.

From a local field of approximately 1000 VET students across our community, there were 80 students nominated for excellence in their fields. St Joseph’s College students Memphis Baker (VET Music) and Kate Moonpen Euvrard (VET Fitness) took out their categories.

I sincerely thank College Principal Marg Blythman for her continued support of the SCN VETDSS Excellence Awards and for allowing the event to be held in the Mercy Theatre. Thanks to the college’s maintenance crew, our IT Department, Tracy Aston and Bronwyn Burt.

Congratulations to VET Music teacher John Menhennett and VET Fitness teacher Mel Ficarra.

FLEXISCHOOLS CASHLESS CANTEEN

The college has recently released ‘Flexischools – Cashless Canteen’. This tool is designed to make it easier for you to order lunch for your child/ren.

We encourage lunch to be pre-ordered, and this app will allow you to do that. Orders are paid for directly through the app and sent straight to our Canteen. (No money will be required at the Canteen.) Through the app, you can also track your order history and load money onto your child’s student card so they can purchase items directly from our Canteen. You can set up multiple children on one account and top each one's card up separately. Please see the account setup information for you.

We will continue to accept EFTPOS and cash at our Canteen. Flexischools is just another option. Simplify your school life with Flexischools – Cashless Canteen today.

YEAR 7 STEM

YOUNG SCIENTISTS HOLD A STEM FAIR FOR YOUNGER PEERS

On Tuesday November 29, all Year 7 students presented a wide range of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) projects to Grade 5 students from Our Lady of the Sacred Heart School Merbein, St Joseph's Primary School Red Cliffs, St Paul's Primary School and Sacred Heart School.

The aim of the fair was to allow students to share their work with others and get younger students excited about STEM. Year 7 students have been working on their projects for the past few weeks and had to have their presentations finalised for November 29.

Each year at the end of Term 4, all Year 7 students prepare and present their projects to students, teachers and judges. The STEM fair has been taking place at the college for the past 11 years. All Year 7 students and the primary school participants respond very positively to the event. Kids teaching kids Science has been shown to be a powerful and engaging learning tool.
