DEPUTY PRINCIPAL LEARNING AND TEACHING

As we come to the end of an incredibly busy year, I would like to acknowledge the college community.

Throughout the year, we have strived to do our best as a community to deliver a quality learning experience successfully. I want to take this opportunity to thank the college staff, in particular the teaching staff, for their commitment, enthusiasm and flexibility.

STUDENT AWARD PRESENTATION EVENING

Equally impressive have been the students in what has been a particularly full and busy year. We continue to be impressed with our students' determination, resilience and motivation to achieve at the highest possible level.

Our annual St Joseph’s College Awards Presentation will be held at the Mercy Theatre on Thursday December 8 commencing at 7:30pm.

It is very important to recognise the efforts of our students. It is a proud tradition of schools, and St Joseph’s College in particular, to celebrate those who achieve at the highest level. It is also essential that we recognise those who epitomise the Core Values of our college. These awards especially honour those who have achieved excellence in their chosen fields.

Award recipients will generally be contacted the week before the awards presentation. However, in some cases, this may occur a few days prior, as we will be relying on results from exams and reports for some awards.  Award recipients will be notified before Tuesday December 6, and be given further details about the evening.

HOW ARE AWARD WINNERS DETERMINED?

Years 7 to 10 Academic Awards

Each student receives a score for each assessment task for each subject, which is then averaged. The top 10% of students in Years 7 to 10 will be presented with academic awards.

VCE Unit 1 and 2

VCE Unit 1 and 2 subject awards are given to those students who achieve the highest score in each subject. The score is based on the scores they received for Unit Assessment tasks and the subject exam.

VCE Unit 3 and 4

VCE Unit 3 and 4 subject awards are given to those students who achieve the highest score in each subject for their internal marks (SACs). At this time, VCAA study scores are unavailable, so we will recognise the highest achievement in each subject according to their VCAA Study Score at a college assembly in February 2023.

VCAL Awards

The VCAL Awards are given to students who have, over the course of the year, demonstrated excellent planning and organisational skills. They can work effectively with others as part of a team and show good leadership and team management skills.

I am really looking forward to having many students and their families present for this great celebration.

2023 BOOKLISTS

Students transitioning into Years 9, 10, 11 and 12 in 2023 can now access their booklists. These can be viewed by logging into SIMON or PAM, selecting your Student’s Profile, and then selecting Booklist.

Students transitioning into Year 8 in 2023 have been given a hardcopy of their booklist. Parents should also have received an email with the relevant information.

Instructions on how to order via Campion Education can be found below.

Booklists must be submitted online by Monday 12 December. Should you have any queries, please contact Ms Anna Bresnehan on 5018 8000 or email abresnehan@sjcmda.vic.edu.au

PARENT ACCESS MODULE (PAM) SURVEY

Over the Christmas holidays, your PAM account will be updated to provide better security and allow for additional functionality. This change will involve moving to a PAM account per parent rather than an account per family.

To help us prepare for this change, you have been asked to complete a survey on PAM. When you log onto PAM you will see the following:

Please click on this, and it will take you to the survey, which will only take one minute to complete.

We ask that families complete the survey by Wednesday 7 December.

YEAR 12 GRADUATION AND RESULTS

It was very pleasing to see Year 12 students and their families celebrate concluding their secondary education. It really is a reminder of what a great supportive community we have at St Joseph’s College.

Our Careers Practitioner, Mrs Fiona Dimasi, will be available to work with students once results are released.
