RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

Looking back on the year that was, we have come a long way in relation to curriculum changes and the implementation of various concepts.

As a Religious Education (RE) Learning Area, we seek to improve knowledge on various topics along the way and implement new content in relation to issues within our modern society.

YEAR 7

During Term 3, students studied a unit called 'Living Faithfully: Early Christian Communities'. Students explored what early Christian life was like. During Term 4, students investigated 'Christian Ethics and Values in Today’s World'. Our Year 7 students explored Christianity’s 'Golden Rule', the definition of 'conscience', what defines morally right and morally wrong, and a handful of contemporary ethical issues.

YEAR 8 AND MERCY WORKS PROJECTS

Our Year 8 RE students have continued various Mercy Works projects within our community throughout Terms 3 and 4. We acknowledge those organisations that have taken part in this experience, and we appreciate their time, support and willingness to take our students. RE lessons focused on two of the most influential figures in Christianity. In 'Mary: Mother and Disciple', students looked closely at Mary's role within her family, as a disciple of Christ, and within the modern Church. 'What would Jesus Do?' asked students to consider what Christ's answers might be about situations which occur in our lives today.

YEAR 9

During Term 3, our Year 9 RE students carefully investigated 'Celebrations: Living out the Eucharist'. They also acknowledged people who lived out the Eucharist in our world today and in the past. During Term 4, our students explored various 'Pathways in Life'. Our Year 9 students looked closely at the challenges we experienced each day through the perspective of various well-known figures and compared their decisions to what the Bible asks of Christians.

YEAR 10

In Term 3, our Year 10 RE students embraced 'Appreciation: Religion and Diversity' at the local, national, and international levels. The unit studied and emphasised the acceptance of various religions within our community. During Term 4, students completed a unit called 'Memories, Gifts and Presences'. Our Year 10 students researched the lives of various prophets, saints, and those who serve the community by choosing a Godly vocation.

YEAR 11 RE ART

With Religious Art as our theme, students focused on various religious artworks and examined how formal qualities such as art elements, materials, and techniques communicate meaning. They examined artists in different societies, cultures, and historical periods and developed their own points of view about the meanings and messages of the artwork they studied.

YEAR 11 RELIGION AND ETHICS

Students selected and identified various ethical issues of their choice. Ethical questions were raised, and the connection between different philosophical traditions was explored. Students also closely investigate moral values represented in the media and popular culture. They presented a final report which applied an ethical decision-making principle and compared two religious briefs. Well done to all students involved!

ST VINCENT DE PAUL CHRISTMAS APPEAL

This year we were able to have all Year 7 to Year 10 Religious Education students visit Big W or Kmart to purchase a gift for a needy child in our community. Students have placed these items under our Christmas Tree, located in the Library at Enright Campus. I want to thank all Religious Education staff and students who participated in this worthy cause. Finally, I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a safe festive season. May God bless you and take care of you during these challenging times.
