College News

A big welcome to the new school year to students, parents and staff. Lots of exciting things have been happening around the school and will continue to happen. Our main focus is engaging students and providing them with learning and life skill opportunities.

Welcome to our new teaching staff Dave McLeish, Keiren Brennan, Sarah Hinge and new education support staff member Karla Wilson. We look forward to what you can contribute to our learning environment over 2023 and beyond.

Congratulations to education support staff member Edwina Hare and her husband Matt who welcomed their first child Sidney into their family over the holidays.

2023 will see the reintroduction of primary and secondary students being able to take up instrumental, which has seen 13 students apply already. Teachers Mrs Cassie Stringer and Miss Sarah Hinge will lead that.

There is a big push within our school to build student skills in reading comprehension. We’ve taken on two new literacy programs to help with this that caters for students from Foundation to Year 10. Reading is one of the most important skills schools/parents can support children with and it’s our major focus amongst our regular teaching this year.

Great to see helpers for our breakfast club volunteering from the community. Here we have a picture of Liz Mulraney with breakfast club manager Jane Francis and students. Breakfast club runs every day and is well supported by students. Fresh fruit, cereal, milk and milo are some of the things available. Thanks to staff and community members who help run our breakfast club!

I don’t want to overload the newsletter with all the things happening around the school, but I will touch on our 2023 focus for student agency. We are building student voice and looking to develop motivated students into tomorrows leaders. There will be leadership programs available for all SRC and school captains during the year.
