A Message from School Council

When coming back on site this year we knew that after a 2-year hiatus of celebrating the school together, coupled with RPS turning 100, we knew that it was going to be a big year!
This last 2 weeks has really shown what an amazingly connected community our little school has and that we all love a party!
We started off our centenary celebrations with an invitation to our alumni to come and visit our centenary gallery filled with memorabilia and the children’s commemorative art work. The afternoon on Friday the 11th was filled with over 50 past students, teachers and parents including the wonderful John Deeks who hosted our event.
The event saw the announcement of our work with the local Indigenous Peoples from the Bunurong Land Council, winners of our art gallery, announcement of new house names and the opening of our Indigenous Garden. Our current students also very kindly took the RPS alumni on school tours before they then enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea together. It was a wonderful afternoon where both many memories, and plans for the future of RPS, were shared.
The children then had the week to preview the gallery and share their art work with peers before the amazing organising crew came in on Saturday to transform RPS to a place we could all party together on Sunday at our Centenary Carnival. And what a carnival it was!
The centenary carnival committee met together for the first time in late June and just 5 months later delivered the most spectacular carnival RPS has ever seen! The school council cannot thank the committee enough for their hard work over those 5 months, it really was a special day that will be remembered for years to come.
We also need to say a MASSIVE thanks to the families and wider RPS community for showing up to all of the events, for volunteering your time, for donating goods & services, really just for supporting our little school. It was a wonderful reminder of the amazing community we missed during the pandemic in 2020 & 2021.
Lastly the team at RPS, our teachers, our leadership team and the best front office team – THANK YOU for your time, your patience, for helping our children be involved and for letting us take over the school! We hope you all know that the reason school council, centenary committees and parent contribution happens is because we believe in all of you and what you bring to our children.
Enjoy the rest of the newsletter to see more detail around our centenary celebration extravaganza!
Thanks,
Tarryn Holland
