November School Council Meeting Report

The ASPS School Council met on the 10th November.

Our main focus surrounded the ASPS Teaching and Learning Policy. Ben Zonca presented the policy to the council which prompted fantastic discussion about the Primary Years Programme, as well as other elements of the curriculum. It was inspiring for council members to see and hear about all the amazing work that is put into the teaching and learning at ASPS.

Other topics that were covered at the November meeting included:

  • Community connection and engagement. The school picnic saw many families connecting and enjoying themselves, despite the challenging weather. The COLA was a fantastic space to keep us dry. Unfortunately Mr Wicher didn’t enjoy the same luxury, as he was successfully dunked in the ‘Dunk-a-teacher’ a few times! We also discussed more ways to ensure our community engagement continue to grow after a couple of very challenging years due to COVID, which included formally welcoming families back on site.
  • The council recognised the tremendous efforts of the families that participated in the school working bee.
  • We had a rigorous discussion about how curriculum days be allocated throughout the year being mindful of both staff and family needs, as well as an informative conversation about examples of the learning that occurs for staff on these highly valuable professional development days.
  • This also led to an initial discussion about November Cup Eve and how this day is structured in the future.
  • Survey results have been received and it was encouraging to observe so many aspects of growth occurring over the past few years, a testament to school leadership, staff and community.

Thank you to all the council members for their engaging discussion and contributions. The next and final council meeting for 2022 will be held on the 5th of December.
