School Life @ ASPS

Attention: The Bees have Arrived!

A beehive we have called Smiley Hive has been installed at ASPS! The bee group, Andrea from Garden and Ms Hui have been working hard to make this happen.

Who is in the bee group you may ask? Natasha Thomas, Mathilda Kwok, James Collett, Lucas Yap, Lesan Perera, Cheng Cheng Lu and Arya Mahase from 4C.

There are about 25 000 to 30 000 bees in our beehive and they will be able to make at least 30 jars of honey next year.  The bee group has been working hard to make sure everyone is safe around the bee hive. The beehive has been installed down near the water tanks where they are fenced off so everyone will be safe, including the bees so they can do their work!

We will be speaking at the final assembly next week and we will talk about the beehive and some fun bee facts to the school.

Cultural Diversity & Inclusion survey

As an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program school, Auburn South Primary School is deeply committed to practicing intercultural understanding.

The following survey is developed by the school’s Cultural Diversity and Inclusion inquiry team and aims to gain insight into the cultures and cultural celebrations that exist across our school community. Ultimately, your responses will come to inform a school-wide commitment to better understanding, acknowledging, and celebrating cultural diversity within our community.

Thank you for advance for your commitment to completing the survey.

Where we are in Place and Time

In Term 3, 3C were asked to choose a way to take action on the way indigenous children are allowed to be sent to jail under 10. We all agreed that this was unfair and most of all not right. Some of us chose to write letters to the prime minister Anthony Albanese to try to make a change in this.

On the 10th of October (term 4) we received letters from Anthony Albanese, we were all glad when he agreed with our view.

Year 1 Sharing the Planet Unit

During our unit Sharing the Planet, Year 1 has been inquiring into human impact on the environment and the actions we can take to help living things and their habitats. We were lucky enough to be a part of the planting of some native plants down near our new beehives, introducing new habitats and food sources for the local wildlife in our school. A big thank you to Miss Hui and 5B for helping our Year 1s with our planting and teaching us about the native plants! We had such a great time out in the garden, and are glad we could help the living things in our environment.

Grade 6 Book Drive

Hi ASPS Community,

Thank you to everyone who donated to the Book Drive for rural schools. 319 books were collected in total - an amazing response! The books will all be going to Alexandra Primary School, located 148 kilometres from Auburn South; with a total of 180 students.

I organised a zoom meeting with a Grade 5 & 6 class from Alexandra PS earlier this week - they were all so happy and grateful to hear they will be receiving your wonderful and well-loved books!

None of this would have been possible if it weren’t for your generous donations.

Thanks again, Chloé Hughes
