From Mrs Kate Callaghan, Head of New House
In our last newsletter publication for 2022 we would like to take a moment to celebrate the wonderful service and commitment of a member of the boarding community who has given 20 years of service to Kinross Wolaroi School this year. Sally Rattray-Wood is far more than the Boarding Administrator, despite doing an exceptional job in this role day in and day out. She is a valued colleague, a cherished friend, a wonderful voice of reason and a font of all boarding cultural knowledge at Kinross. In short, she is the beating heart of boarding and on behalf of all the students, parents and staff she has supported, cared for and guided we say thank you.
Sally began her career at Kinross Wolaroi School in 2002 and has worked consistently in boarding throughout that time. She was once shared by the Engagement Team and has worked at Reception as well during her years at the school. However, it is in Boarding that Sally has built wonderful relationships with her many colleagues over the years and she has been a consistent figure of strength, kindness and good humour during times of change. Sally has a wonderful way of delivering advice in an understated fashion and she is meticulous in her planning and preparation. She has a huge memory and is able to recall details of all the ins and outs of Kinross life over the last twenty years and I am sure she has many stories to tell!
Sally is a friendly voice over the phone for so many of our boarding families who live far away from their children during the term. She is the one who books public transport, arranges appointments, assists with excursion bookings, organises house dinners and for many, many years Sally was in charge of the Year 12 Graduation Ball which was a huge job but ran beautifully under her close watch. Our boarding families over the last twenty years are so grateful to Sally for the huge contribution she has made to ensure their children have a smooth transition into boarding life.
Everyone at Kinross Wolaroi is incredibly grateful to Sally and we extend a huge congratulations for her twenty dedicated years of service to our school community. Sally is truly one of a kind and we hope she remains the beating heart of boarding for many years to come.
