Community Engagement
Are you interested in rapping?
Hampton Park Library have engaged a recording rapping artist, Mista Monk, to lead young people in the community in a program to learn rap, beatbox, and lyrical freestyle.
Last Wednesday, Mista Monk visited the school as a taster for these sessions. Who took 7 students on a journey of song writing finishing with a performance of the song they compiled in less than an hour.
Observing this performance it was exceptional to see how the students collaborated and worked together for a fantastic final song product.
These students and any others are invited to participate in this program at Hampton Park Library beginning on Tuesday 20 August. The Rap Workshops will run for 2 days per week for 5 weeks
Tuesday: 2.00pm – 4.00pm
Wednesday: 3.30pm – 5.30pm
Students can sign up at the Library or book here
Parental Permission forms will be distributed at the first workshop.
It is definitely worth going along and making some music.
FedUni Casey Project
Six Year 9 students are currently engaged in a project with FedUni and the City of Casey. They are working on solving the problem “What makes a smart city?” investigating how technology can be used effectively in the environment.
The project was launched at the beginning of the term when the students attended the Federation University Campus, Berwick. At the launch day the students listened to a series of lectures from university lecturers to get them to begin thinking about the current use and possibilities of use for technology.
Five finalists across schools in the City of Casey will be selected to present to the Federation University Lecturers and City of Casey councillors. I wish the students luck in this challenge – Nikita Brito, Alyssa Pederson, Shukriya Zafari, Nargis Azami, Kaira Te and Chelsea Skey. I also thank Ms Amy Johnson for taking the students to the launch day.
