Ramadan Iftar 2019

Eid Mubarak - Celebrations for the end of Ramadan

Congratulations on another successful Ramadan at Coburg High School. While we celebrate many different cultures and have a number of public holidays to accommodate Christian events, the holy month of Ramadan takes additional organising within a school term which includes sporting events, major assessment tasks and exams. Once again our students have demonstrated our values of Community and Integrity by managing fasting and prayers with minimal impact upon their schooling, as well as by sharing and celebrating their culture with everyone else.

Our Iftar was attended by even more people than last year, with over 150 people stopping by for a meal, catching up with old friends, and making new ones. Both Lizzie Blandthorn, our State MP, and Natalie Abboud, the Mayor of Moreland, honoured us by attending, as did many staff who brought their own families with them.

A special thanks to Memduha Oztas, one of our mathematics teachers, who volunteered to run a prayer space throughout Ramadan and helped to run a successful Iftar. Several of our senior students also took on leadership roles during this important month and we recognise that they are growing into the community leaders of tomorrow.
