World Challenge Update

In November, twenty-three Coburg students will be heading to Costa Rica for a one month trip. Itineraries have been confirmed and students will be completing a range of exciting and life-changing activities. Both teams will be completing four-day self-guided hikes as well as community engagement projects.

In the lead-up, our two World Challenge teams have been busy fundraising to help pay for their trips. In term one, the teams organised a movie night and cooked dinner for 40 attendees. This term, the students held sausage sizzle fundraisers on the school Open Evening. Students are also completing their independent efforts to raise funds for their trips, gaining local part-time jobs and hosting stalls at Coburg Market.

The teams have also been preparing the skills they will need to travel together for a month. We have had training hikes in the Dandenong Ranges, $2 dollar meal challenges, and itinerary brainstorm sessions. This coming weekend, the teams will work on their distance walking, walking along the Merri Creek into the city, carrying their heavy packs.

Coming up, the students will complete a two-day training camp in Daylesford. With only a few months before we depart, the teams will continue to work closely together to fundraise and build key travelling skills. The students and teachers look forward to what will be a rewarding challenge and an amazing opportunity to learn about Costa Rica’s rich culture.

Fundraising for a Coburg High Family

Many of our staff, students and families know only too well the stress and heartache an illness can cause within a family. When an opportunity to help those in this situation presents itself, as a community, we support them.

A Coburg High School family with two students at our school has put the call out for help in order to combat a their father's terminal illness. Please read the Go Fund Me Page to learn more about John Pope's fight and the possibility of hope with new treatment.

Coburg High School Commemorative Book

The commemorative publication 'Loyal in All: Centenary of Coburg High School 1916 - 2016' is an important publication on the history of our school and was written by two of our alumni, Elisabeth Grove and Laura Donati. Copies are available for purchase at the school reception, until stocks run out. The book provides a fascinating and comprehensive history of Coburg High School from its establishment in 1916 on Bell Street through to our re-established Coburg High School here on Urquhart Street.

For more information about our alumni, there is a dedicated website run by a committee of former students:
