Term 4 Week 3
Cooking & Weekend Market
Last Thursday and Friday we had a number of parents and grandparents come and work with the students to support them while they made slices, muffins, honey joys and biscuits for the Moyhu Lions Club Market on Saturday. The children really enjoyed the sessions learning a number of different recipes and cooking techniques that they could then use at home. A special thanks to all parents who helped out with the cooking and who also worked at the stall on the Saturday morning. We raised about $300 once all costs were taken into account. A very successful day.
Swimming
This week we started our swimming program at the Barr Reserve in Wangaratta. This part of the program allows the children to experience deeper water and to be able to work on their stroke technique and endurance in a bigger pool. Our pool at school is almost ready for swimming, just need a few more warmer days to help with the water temperature. Both programs should give the children a very comprehensive swimming program for the year.
Not ok to be away
Just a reminder to anyone who misses a day of school. Can you please let the school know that your child is unable to attend first thing on the morning of the day they are missing or before. It is a requirement that teachers follow up if a child is not at school, when there are just the two teachers, it means we have to step away from teaching to call. Please call on the school number, 5727 9298. Please don't email Renee on her email, as she is part time and may not read the email until she is back in the office. Attending school is very important as we know that if you miss only 1 day a fortnight on average for a year it adds up to 20 days or 4 weeks of school for the year and 140 days while at Primary school which is ¾ of a year ( a lot of school). So unless your child is sick, on a family holiday or has appointments they need to be at school. Please find below an attachment of a fact sheet from the Department of Education on student absences.
Walk to school
This month it is walk to school month. As you are aware the children were given a pedometer to measure their steps from the walk to school organisation. These certainly created a lot of excitement seeing how many steps they actually take in a day. The school is also provided with some fruit and vegetables which we share out at recess for all the children. It has been really good to see a number of children taking the opportunity to be dropped off in town or walk from town to school.
Regional Athletics
Last Friday the 18th October Lily, Lachlan and Ascha represented the school and King Valley Cluster at the Regional Athletics Competition. Lily 3rd in the 12 year old girls 1500m, Lachlan 8th in the 12 year old boys Discus and Ascha 8th in the 10 year old girls Discus. They all performed very well and did themselves and the school proud. Well done to all three on an excellent effort in reaching this level of competition.
School Council Meeting
There is a School Council Meeting this coming Monday 28th October at 5:30pm here at school.
