What's happening in the classroom??

2B Enjoying their first day of school 2018!
We explored non-fiction texts in Science linking Literacy to our unit of Exploration, Mixtures.
ISC (Information Services Centre) 2018
Secondary School
It has been great to see so many more students using the centre over the last few weeks. Our Senior students have been studying well in the ‘new look’ quiet study area, and we have had many students come and check out the changes. We have now integrated a ‘Secondary School Only’ lunchtime on Fridays to encourage our Secondary School students to use the centre more. Last Friday saw many groups of students using the STEM centres that Mrs Sage had created and taking advantage of the homework help which is available every Friday at lunch. We have many more ideas to encourage our students to borrow books including looking into e-books which students will be able to borrow in the comfort of their own home. Watch this space for more information.
Primary
The Information Services Centre is up and running and the students in K-6 have been busy borrowing books, reading, and doing STEM inspired challenges. Our new Kindergarten students have been busy borrowing books and learning about animals. They designed their own shelter for their favourite animal using blocks and lego. Our Stage 3 students engineered playdough men to stand upright using matchsticks and paddle pop sticks, and drew their shadows using a light source. They are now in the process of creating iMovie trailers for their favourite books. In Stage 2, students have used coding programs to manoeuvre the Sphero balls and have learnt how to research using World Book Online on the computers and our lovely Stage 1 students have been learning about coconut trees and the alphabet reading the book ‘Chicka, Chicka, Boom, Boom’ in the lead up to creating their own coconut tree using cardboard rolls and crepe paper!
The ISC has been very busy at lunchtimes with students from Kinder – Year 12 using the Centre. Students have been playing chess, using the lego corner, finishing puzzles, making towers out of straw, creating using play dough, making domino towers, using the computers, reading and lots more. We love to see so many students using the talents God has given them, and working together in this space.
2B Mathematics 2018
In 2B, students enjoy hands on learning in Mathematics with support from Mrs Gudgeon.
We celebrate our learning by taking turns being the teacher and reading to the class.
Mr Reed teaching Year 2M 2018
All about measuring the large fish he has been catching ;)
2B Science 2018
In Science, Mixtures, we made a space themed sensory bottle. We mixed together oil, water, glitter and food colouring. We learnt that oil and water don’t mix well together. It was a fun learning opportunity. We also made play dough!
2017 5RF
Mrs Ridley's class had opportunity to continue their learning about the Kokoda Trail today with a virtual reality (VR) experience. ABC's Behind The News released a VR experience targeted at the young learner. Students toured parts of the trail and made believe they were Australian troops. As part of the experience students watched interviews given by veterans and saw snips of footage from WWII. This VR experience consolidated our learning.
2017 Year 9 & 10 Agriculture Technology
Stage five Agriculture have been studying a Unit on Horse Ag Skills during Term 4. As part of our unit we have been privileged to have Sue Small come and speak, teach and coach students in horse husbandry and riding skills. We were also very blessed to have the opportunity to visit Edinburgh Park Stud in Wingham. This provided opportunity for students to observe firsthand, excellence in farm management practices and forward planning in farm set up and business management. I would like to publicly thank both Sue Small and Ian Smith for the generosity of their time and commitment to better education for young people.
2017 Year 4 Market Day
2017 Picture Book Reading
Year 5/6 students created their very own picture books in conjunction with their Literacy novel study on the book Rivertime. Once completed, they were given the opportunity to share what they had made by reading them to Kindergarten and Year 1 students. It was a great opportunity for them to connect with their audience and our younger students loved hearing all the stories and looking at the illustrations.
