Year 7 Camp 2019

From Milly Wright, Drew Garratt & Rylan McConachie

On the 6th of February year 7’s went on camp and participated in many fun activities. The activities included high ropes, initiatives, canoeing, a hike and a bike ride.  High ropes was amazing. Everyone challenged themselves and had a lot of fun. The ropes were high but not high enough to stop us climbing up and giving it a go. Everyone loved it. We climbed in the canoe and got pushed out into the lake. Paddling out to the middle of the lake made our arms tired but it was worth it.  Initiatives were the best. We started off inside playing mind games then moved outside were we had a rope in the middle of two platforms and we had to get everyone from one side to the other. It took my group like 5 goes before we all got on the platform. After we all made it onto the platform, we moved a bit further out to make huts. My group went up against a rock and gathered a lot of big sticks to make a roof. By the time we went round to check them out mine already at lizards living in it.

Why so soon?

A common question is why do we send the students in year 7 off on camp so soon in the school year - the answer is one that Mr MacDonald phrased so well a few years back, the students go to camp as students from their respective Primary Schools (North, Dunkeld, Coleraine, Merino, Gray Street, George Street, Macarthur, St Marys, Good Shepherd & Cavendish) and return Baimbridge students.  Friendships are made and students shed their Primary School personas, it is a very rewarding experience for students - plus it allows their teachers to form relationships, always a powerful thing on camp.
