School Council Elections 2020 - Parents in Partnership

I am pleased to announce the outcome of the 2020 School Council elections. The successful applicants will join School Council after the Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 24th March. Congratulations to the following four successful candidates- Shilo Breen-Scuilli, Lisa Basic, Angela Richards and Naomi Sayegh who each hold the position of a parent member. The DET member re-elected is Gabby Tigafua.

School Council membership as of March 2020, until the 2021 AGM are as follows:

Non DET Members - Shilo Breen-Scuilli, Lisa Basic, Angela Richards, Ayse Erdogan, Lyla Badawy, Naomi Sayegh and Ozzie Yildiz.

Non DET Community Member - Lynette Liberti.

DET Employee Member - Robert Rovetto, Meredith Clegg, Gabby Tigafua and Angelika Ireland.

I sincerely thank the following School Council members who are not returning –

Sharon Matuauto who has been on School Council since 2012 as the parent of four children who all completed their schooling at Greenvale Primay School. Sharon is leaving our school as her youngest child, Amaiya, was in Year 6 last year and has now moved on to her secondary schooling. Sharon was very active with the Community Links Committee, leading the organisation of many school special events and fundraising. Her contribution to our school community will be sorely missed.

Aksen Ilhan who has finished a two year term on School Council and been part of the Buildings and Grounds Committee during that time.

2019 Annual Report to the School Community - Parents in Partnership

You are invited to attend the School Council Annual General Meeting (AGM) to hear the outcomes of the 2019 Annual Report to the School Community. The annual report provides a means for the school council to inform the community of what has been achieved and how the school has performed in the previous year.

The annual report includes the following:

a profile comment about our school including the school’s vision and purpose, and defining attributes of the school including its geographic location, size and structure, social characteristics, enrolment characteristics, special programs etc.
comments on the school’s progress and what the school is doing to improve student outcomes in the three areas of achievement, engagement and wellbeing.
Information about school enrolments, the socio-economic background of students, the proportion of students with English as an additional language, data related to parent and staff satisfaction.
How our students are performing in English and Mathematics compared to all Victorian Primary Schools.
How our students are performing in NAPLAN in Year 3 and Year 5 compared to all Victorian Primary Schools.
Student attendance data.
Year 4 to Year 6 Student Attitudes to School data.
Parent Satisfaction Summary.
School Staff Survey Summary.

Please Note – School Council Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held at 6:00pm on Tuesday 24th March followed by the School Council meeting with the new Council at 6:30pm. The AGM is an open meeting so I am cordially inviting parents to attend if they wish to do so. At the AGM we will table and discuss the Annual Report to the School Community which outlines school outcomes and progress for 2020.

The Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) is carrying out a subdivision review of Hume City Council and would like the input of the local community.

Hume City Council - Subdivision Review

The Victorian Electoral Commission is carrying out a subdivision review of Hume City Council and wants your input from the local community. The review looks at adjustments to ward boundaries to ensure each voter is equitably represented in the upcoming local council elections.

The VEC has released a preliminary report with proposed changes to the boundaries of all wards within Hume City Council.

You can have your say on the proposed changes to ward boundaries by making a submission to the VEC. Submissions must reach the VEC by 5:00pm on Wednesday 25th March 2020.

Smoking is banned in and around Schools

As of the start of 2015, smoking (including e-cigarettes) is banned within the school grounds and within four metres of an entrance to all primary and secondary schools, childcare centres and kindergartens in Victoria under an amendment to the Tobacco Act 1987.

The smoking ban applies to:

anyone present on school premises during and after school hours including students, teachers, contractors, parents/guardians or the wider community, such as sporting groups.
all activities that take place on school premises including pre-schools, kindergartens, outside school hours care, cultural, sporting or recreational activities and school fetes.

Our New Shade Sail

We are now the proud owners of a new shade cover over the junior play equipment. The costs for the purchase of this was supported by money raised by last term’s Colour Blast - $9,331. Many thanks to all the families who contributed to this fundraiser.
