Futsal

On the 22nd and 23rd the Coffs Coast Futsal titles were held at Sportz Central in Coffs Harbour. ASC has 4 teams nominated, 19s Girls, 14s Boys, 15s Boys and 19s Boys.

The girls team was first up with a double header against two of the strongest schools north of Newcastle, Coffs Harbour Senior College and Bellingen High School. This was to be 56 minutes of fast-paced Futsal within a 60 minute timeframe, made all the much challenging by the team competing with 5 players. The girls stood up to the challenge with an awe inspiring attitude and tactical effort. Unfortunately exhaustion started to creep in during both games with goals being scored against them in the run of play.

This story was to be continue in the last two matches of the day, the girls playing with an awe inspiring positive attitude, tactical effort and support for each other. While the team didn't make the final, everyone who knows Brooke, Megan, Hollie, Lucy and Georgia should be extremely proud of how this team conducted themselves throughout the tournament.

19 Girls team - Hollie Porter, Lucy Portell, Megan Frost, Georgia Gream & Brooke Burto

The boys competition day began early with everyone ready to travel down by 5am on the bus. The match schedule saw each team play other teams in their age group in a round robin competition ending with finals.

The 14s started well in the tournament with some great goals and of note spectacular individual performance by Stuart Parsons. Unfortunately the day took a turn when one of their players, Micah Lay, was taken to hospital with a suspected fractured arm. A player down, the team gave it their all to see them qualify for the final. This was to be highly physical and exhausting game for the team but buoyed by the return of Micah Lay to support the team they gave it their all. Bishop Druit was too strong in the end but by making the final the 14's qualify for state level of the competition.

14 Boys team - Oscar Gates, Hamish Wallace, Stuart Parsons, Jack Mcleod, Jordan Marshal, Micah Lay & Callum Griggs

ASC 15s team stepped it up a level competing in the 16 competition. This was a level to which the boys lifted and put in some consistent performances. They played fast possession based Futsal leading a host of creative chances on goal. Against the 16 sides the ASC team performed admirably, only losing by one goal on each occasion, this led them to reflect upon on what could have been a draw or a win to reach the final for the day. The boys can hold their heads up high, be proud of what they have achieved as they still qualify for the next round in the state for the 15s due to their strong performances against the other 15s side in their pool.

16 Boys  - back - Angus Towie, Jocob Pearce, Ryan Harris, Aiden Webster & Brock Parsons.

front - Casey Rainger, Nicholas Jackson, Joshua Dunbar & Cooper Heagney,

The 19's team was largely comprised of a core group of friends who have played together in the past years as a Futsal team with 2 new faces who had not played Futsal for their school before. The first game was a situation where the players were still getting to know each others' movements in a game environment. Despite playing with and against each other on Futsal Fridays as part of the ASC Futsal program, this team had yet to experience the challenge that a national podium finishing Bishop Druitt College could mount. The first game of the day was a game of learning where many positives could be made, the second game was building on structural positives, attaching strengths and minimising chance creation for the opposing team, the third match of the day was brilliant. The boys played with a high level of commitment towards the team and an exceedingly positive attitude, taking them all the way to the final. This final was to be against Bishop Druitt and the showcase of the day's competition, and the ASC boys did not disappoint! Bishop Druitt started strong getting out to a favourable 4-1 lead 5 minutes into the second half. The team fought hard, maintained tactical awareness to break down Bishop Druitt to bring the scores back to 4-3 with only a few minutes remaining. Exhaustion levels where high for the entire team at this point in the match but it did not prevent them from being supportive to each other and do what was needed for the team, a great example of ASC's core expectation of resilience. Shots went everywhere from every angle as each team tried to get the advantage. A stale mate developed, ASC could not get that equalling goal and Bishop Druitt could not that goal to finish match. The match ended with both teams shaking hands at 4-3.

19 Boys - Nashat Jarralah, Jye Saxby, Harry Sinclair, Alex Williams, Luke Wilson, Marley Lynch, Ryan Hendrickse, Berton Lynch.

Next step for the these teams is to step up their training regimes in preparation for the state competition in August and the selection of individual players into Norther NSW representative teams which are expected to be released in the coming days.

Well done teams!

Touch

The Open Girls; Touch team defeated Quirindi at Rugby League Park, Armidale. This now puts the girls through to the fourth round of the North West Knockout Competition.

The girls started strongly to put on an early try but Quirindi replied quickly when attacking the home team try line. Our girls rallied to put on another two tries (with Quirindi scoring again as well) and the first half ended up 3-2.

Our girls were lucky to have three Year 12 students back playing and it certainly helped our depth for the game. In the second half Armidale Secondary College blew the opposition off the park with some tremendous tries. Our ball players stepped up the speed in the middle and our wider players finished off by supporting well and getting the ball over the line. ASC finishing up deserved winners 9 -3.

Netball

Armidale Secondary College has its own Saturday Netball Club. This year we have a Year 8 team: "ASC Storm" and two combined teams: "ASC Blaze" and "ASC Rockets".

Thank you to Karen Frost, Kelly Hall & Iona Mair for assisting with the set up and running of the Club.

We would like to significantly increase the number of school teams for next year and encourage all our netballers to join our new club. Speak to Mrs Pearson for more info.
