An Update from Mrs Cosentino

Welcome Back

A warm welcome back to all our students and parents, Term 4 will be a busy one with many activities and learning.  We will also be busy hiring new staff.  Next year we have 80 preps (four classes) starting school. We anticipate that we will have approximately 230 students in total next year.  More detailed information about grade structures for 2020 will be published in November once we have finalised our hiring of new staff.

Indigenous for a Day

Last term our students experienced a fantastic day learning about our indigenous culture. Activities included dancing, face painting, story time, language and indigenous food. We thank Cultural Infusion for providing our students the opportunity to learn more about the indigenous people of our land.

Workforce Planning and Predicted Enrolments for 2020

We are in the process of appointing new staff to cater for our incoming students. To secure the best possible teaching staff our recruiting process is vigorous involving an interview, planning of a lesson in a team group situation and then teaching the lesson to a class of students.  Our STEM teacher Ms Emily Paine unfortunately resigned at the end of Term 3 due to family commitments. Her position has been advertised and we plan to appoint early next week.  We take this opportunity to thank Emily for her contribution in starting the STEM program at South Melbourne Park.

Inaugural 'Principal for the Day'

We congratulate Jaya (Prep B) for being an amazing ‘Principal for the Day’. On the last day of term, Jayla walked around the school with me greeting students and making some very important decisions:

  • Mrs Edwards is allowed to purchase more reading take home books
  • She wanted everyone to have a great holiday and to have fun
  • Reminded everyone that if they go to the beach to wear sunscreen
  • She wrote a thank you letter to PSW thanking them for the generous donation of  gift vouchers for our upcoming SMPPS Got Talent.
