Director of Pedagogy & Innovation

At the beginning of each year we take the opportunity to meet with the parents of our new Year 7s at our Year 7 Welcome Barbecue and Information Session, and we also host a Senior Information Evening for our senior students and their parents. We are committed to ensuring our Year 7 students have a smooth transition into secondary school. It is also important that our senior students and their parents are aware of the policies and procedures of the VCE at the beginning of the year. It was so lovely to hear our Year 7s start the information session singing the College song with such enthusiasm, ably led by our music teacher Mr Zambon.

On Wednesday 13 February girls in Years 10, 11 and 12 participated in study skills sessions presented by Elevate Education. The Year 10s attended a session titled ‘Study Sensei’, the Year 11s learnt more about time management, and the Year 12s were provided tips to ace their exams. We decided to run these sessions early in Term 1 so the students can implement what they learnt throughout the year. The presenters from Elevate are always enthusiastic and engaging and we hope the girls walked away with new ideas and skills they can put in place to ensure they achieve their personal best this year. Before the Senior Information Evening a presenter from Elevate ran a parent information session. A lot of the tips and strategies presented to the students during their sessions was shared with parents.

Learning Goals

It is important for students to set personal learning and wellbeing goals at the start of the new school year and to regularly reflect on the progress they are making towards achieving these goals. During Positive Education lessons in the next few weeks students will have an opportunity to articulate goals for their learning and wellbeing in Semester 1. We encourage girls to carefully read their report from Semester 2, 2018 and the feedback from assessment tasks on the portal to help guide them in writing their goals.

Launch of VCE Parent Support Guide

At the Senior Information Evening we launched a guide to support parents of girls in VCE. Our experienced VCE teachers have provided advice to parents on how they can support their daughter’s learning in the subjects she is studying across Years 11 and 12. The guide was emailed to all VCE parents and we hope it will be a useful resource. We have also included a link to the guide .
