Principal's Message: Celebration

I was privileged to be present at the recent VCE Premiers Awards for students with outstanding achievement. Amidst the sea of private and government selective schools represented was a fair smattering of real schools like ours. Two Princes Hill students were recognised by the Deputy Premier and Education Minister James Merlino; Joseph Rowan and Grace Robinson (photos below). Grace was acknowledged for her outstanding Music Investigation result whilst Joseph was the only student in the state to receive four Premier’s awards – Top All-Round High Achiever and Maths Methods, French and Chemistry Study Awards. See the article and photos in this issue of Sarah Hordern's Top Art's awards currently on exhibit at Monash. The combination of personal qualities, effort, along with the encouragement and support of many staff, family and peers throughout their learning journeys (so far) is worthy of celebration.

We openly acknowledge as a school that we value achievement, and understand that it has many expressions and manifestations. Some are academic, some personal, whilst others are artistic, sporting or relational. The evening of June 5 saw students again performing in the MS production of Babes in the Woods, whilst Music students performed at the Winter Concert at a new venue for us, the Thornbury Theatre. Theatre Studies students also performed at school on the evenings of June 7 & 14 in Goldoni's The Servant of Two Masters .

Year 9 &10 students had a resilience building experience in wet weather on the Outdoor Education camp while other students were meeting challenging physical and mental goals on Boot Camp. Studnets and staff are currently in Vietnam and Indonesia for extraordinary Humanities and Science experiences. Before long, language students will head to Italy whilst students in years 8 and 10 will experience the beauty of the Victorian Alps. All the while, teaching and learning in regular classes continues and a variety of professional learning is taking place.

As we move in to the colder winter months (remember the days are getting longer already - from June 22!) and the end of semester rush makes itself felt, take time for self-care and to remind yourselves of the importance of learning and growing; celebrating the collective difference we make as parents, carers, teachers, education support staff, friends and peers.
