Principal Message

Message from the College Acting Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to Term 4! It has been great seeing our students settle back into school routines, learning and enjoying their school experiences.

From Monday next week, we welcome back our Principal Ms Rynn Anderson. Ms Anderson has been away this year to date supporting other schools in our area. We look forward to her return.

Melbourne Cup Day – Tuesday 5 November

We remind our families that although there is no school on the public holiday, Tuesday 5 November, classes remain as normal on Monday 4 November. Please make sure that your child attends school on this day to continue with their learning.

2020 – 2023 Strategic Plan

As a College, we have completed our examination into our work from the past four years and are nearly at the stage where we begin to develop our next 4 year Strategic Plan. This Strategic Plan will become the focus for school improvement until 2023. Further information to come.

Undercover Area and Outdoor Gym

You may have noticed some construction work taking place at our College.

Over the past few weeks our new undercover area (roof), next to Tarneit Kindergarten and the back of D Block, was raised. This space will be our new synthetic turf area, where it will be used for student play, classroom learning, as well as other multipurpose games and activities.

We have also had our outdoor gym start construction recently. This space is located near our cricket nets and soccer pitch at the back of the school. Students will be able to use this facility during break times. The outdoor gym is a place where students are can use their body weight as resistance, to help them exercise and have fun while doing it.

Term 4 – SunSmart

Just reminding our community that our College is a Sun Smart school. We aim to educate our community on the importance of being protected from the sun. This means wearing sun screen and a broad brimmed hat. All students in Prep to Year 9 are expected to wear a hat during recess, lunchtime and any outdoor activities. If they do not have a hat, they will not be able to participate. Please make sure your child brings their hat every day and please remember to write their name on it, so it can be returned to them if it gets lost.

Year 12 Exams

We would like to extend our best wishes to all Tarneit Senior College and all previous Tarneit P-9 College students, with finishing their formal schooling this week. With Year 12 exams beginning next week, we know that our previous students will be prepared and do their best. Good Luck!

Kind Regards

Matthew Naudi

Acting College Principal

Messages from Assistant Principals

Dear Parents and Carers,

Recently our Prep students had the opportunity to take part in the Responsible Pet Ownership (RPO) Program. The RPO Program educates children on living safely with dogs and responsible pet ownership. The RPO Programs Pet Educators and their suitability tested dogs promote vital safety messages through animated presentations, song and role play. Our students thoroughly enjoyed the incursion and we thank our Prep teachers for organising and giving our student the opportunity.

Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 Sports Gala

This week our Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 students participated in a Sports Gala on the Community Oval. They competed in a range of activities including a relay race, tunnel ball, egg and spoon race, frisbee throwing, and longest kick. It was a great opportunity to dress up in our house colours and cheer each other on.  Well done to all the College Houses.

Overall, staff were very impressed with our students’ behaviour and attitude on the day. We believe they did a wonderful job of demonstrating our four school values or Learning, Responsibility, Inclusiveness and Pride. We saw so many examples of students using their growth mindset to help them achieve their personal best. Well done everyone for being such good sports!

Thank you to all the families who came to support our students, it was great to see so many of you there.  A big thank you to the Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 teachers for running the activities and joining in on the day and to our wonderful PE staff and Mr Yates for all his organisation.

Year 2 Sleepover

We remind Year 2 Parents/Carers that the Year 2 Sleepover is taking place this Friday 25 October. The Sleepover is part of our whole school camps program and is a great experience and opportunity for children to build their independence and experience with being away from parents/carers and the comforts of home. I know that the students are excited and that the teachers have organised a great night.

Kind Regards

Matthew Naudi

Assistant Principal Year Prep - Year 2

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to Term 4, our final school term for the year and our students have hit the ground running. Our classes are settled and the children are Ready to Learn.

We are very much looking forward to this Term with lots of upcoming events, such as our Spring Show Case and Health Night.

Life Education Van

Harold is half way through his visit at our College. He is a lovable giraffe, and passionate advocate for the health and safety of our children. Our children have loved engaging with Harold during his visit so far this Term.

Parent Helpers

As a College, we welcome our parent/community involvement to help further the learning of our students in the classroom. Our Prep - Year 6 parents/community had the opportunity to attend a Classroom Helpers Professional Learning. The topics covered were English, Maths, independent learning and small group learning from Prep - Year 6. We look forward to continuing to build upon these relationships with our parent/community.

Kind Regards

Rily Dorgan

Assistant Principal Year 3-4

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to Term 4. We hope that everyone had a safe and happy break. We have had a very settled start back to the term. Students have been busy with their learning and are very excited to be back at school.

Our Year 5/6 students have been taking part in the Huddle in Schools Program. This is a joint initiative with the North Melbourne Football Club and the Werribee Football Club. The program gives football experience to our students and the training exercises and group activities are run by players and members of the NMFC and Werribee FC, as well as SEDA.

Well done to our Year 6 boys and girls who competed in the divisional volleyball competition at the end of Week 1. Our Year 6 girls were crowned champions and will move onto the regional state of the competition.

A reminder to parents that every day your child is away from school their learning is impacted. Cumulative absence has a negative impact on student learning, and we must work together to have children arrive to school on time, every day. Every learning minute counts, and we want children to be at school every day so they can be the best they can be.

Kind Regards,

Barry Devlin

Assistant Principal Years 5-6

Dear Parents and Carers,

Students across Years 7-9 have started Term 4 with a number of learning opportunities ahead. Students in Year 7 returned from a three day camp at Lake Dewar Lodge – where they took part in a range of adventure activities that challenged the students both intellectually and physically. Students developed their leadership skills and their ability to work in teams. They also developed a sense of responsibility and independence in their short stay. Students had a fantastic time and they all cherished their time together.

Students in Year 8 have had multiple opportunities over the first few weeks to demonstrate their learning in and out of the classroom. Selected students have taken part in a leadership conference at the Wyndham Tech School, other students have taken part in the ‘In League in Harmony’ program, which is an NRL lead program that focuses on respect, responsibility and inclusiveness through the skills of Rugby League.

Our Year 9 students are preparing for their last few weeks as students at our College. They are taking part in a range of elective excursions including hiking in Outdoor Ed and Psychology students will be visiting the psychology exhibition at the Melbourne Museum later in the term.

We look forward to a busy Term 4 with a range of inter school sports finals as well as the conclusion of the year academically with final assessments and exams at the back end of Term 4.

Kind Regards,

John Eskander

Assistant Principal Years 7-9

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to Term 4! It’s hard to believe the end of another school year is already approaching - that said, there is plenty of learning to still take place and many exciting opportunities to extend learning beyond the classroom. Please make sure you keep a close eye on Compass and the Community Calendar to stay up-to-date with these.

Coming up this term, we have our bi-annual Spring Showcase (Thursday 14 Novembe
