River Room Term 2 Newsletter

Welcome to our term 2 newsletter. What a term it has been! It wasn't a usual term yet again but one we all got through together. Togetherness has played a big part how we have overcome challenges and also experience some wonderful moments together! We introduced new friends into the room and welcomed existing children families after a break.

Within the room

As we entered term 2 we welcomed some new faces into the room Evie and Willow and also saw some children leaving us for Sun room Liam and Eli who have done so well settling into their new routines and transitions.  We made a collaborative decision to close the doors the connect both parts of the room to create a play and sleep room. This worked so well especially with a smaller group of children as it instilled a sense or routine as they knew what the rooms were meant for. It was wonderful seeing the children collect there things before sleep and make their way to the door to their mats. We of course helped littlest ones to their cots.

Throughout the term we experienced a change of season from Autumn to winter which sparked a big interest in both the indoor and outdoor environment and over the course of the term have noticed the changes in the trees outside.  We spent quite a bit of time exploring this in many ways:

  • Collecting leaves
  • Pasting and painting
  • Shredded autumn paper tray with leaves
  • Incorporating leaves into sandpit

We then extended this learning experience into winter which we found the children responded really well to. We updated our feature window from our beautiful palm tree to an umbrella with raindrops and gumboots that were all created by the children as you are aware this a group project we are focusing on this year.

Interest we are enjoying

We have been enjoying so many things around the room including puzzles, home corner with babies, the puzzle table, books, loose parts, transport and music and movement, playdough and outdoor play. We got very involved in a big box we had in the room for some time, we starting off colouring the box, hiding in the box and eventually painting the box too!

We have had a great term and look forward to the next coming out better and stronger with more moments to cherish.
