Welcome to the Term two Newsletter

Dear families and friends of Haven Early Learning

Welcome to our Term 2 newsletter.  Can you believe we are already just over halfway through the year. The last couple of months have been very different for us at Haven, and we have found that we have had to adapt in many different ways, as each month continues to change.

We are very grateful to our team that have kept the centre running throughout these crazy and difficult times.  Their passion and consistency over the last couple of months has been something to be admirable of. We truly thank them for all they have done, to keep some form of normality in the children’s lives and ours.

To our Families, we thank you for your continued support throughout these difficult times.  As we move into, what seems to be uncertain times again, we kindly ask that our families continue doing their part by looking out for signs and symptoms relating to COVID-19. If your child is to experience any of  the  following symptoms, please keep your child home and have them checked by your GP.

The symptoms to watch out for are:

  • Fever
  • Chills or sweats
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Shortness of breath
  • Runny nose
  • Loss of sense of smell or taste
  • In certain circumstances headache, muscle soreness, stuffy nose, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea may also be considered a symptom.

This will ensure that our Centre remains a safe environment for all our educators, their families, your children, your families, and the wider community.

Over that last few weeks, we have had to rethink our protocol, when families are dropping off their children.  Again, we thank you for being able to adapt with us.

As I am sure you have all noticed now, we have recently updated all our signage and branding to Haven Early Learning.  With our new branding, we have also had our new uniforms arrive. It is great to wear clothing to work, and it makes us feel that we belong and are part of the Haven brand.

This Term we had our outdoor spaces refreshed. We feel the landscape crew have done this, with keeping  with our original designs in mind.  Our areas still look natural, which we feel sums up our education and care environment.  We have a new additional area introduced to the Forest and Field yard, an outdoor classroom.  A place where we can extend our indoor classroom, a sanctuary for time to relax and focus on our well-being.

Throughout the updates that have taken over 4 weeks, the children have enjoyed watching the yards being completed and this had also sparked many conversations for the children about construction.

Over the past few months, we have been able to really focus on professional development.  This has seen our educators choose areas that they wished to focus on.  Each seminar was completed through Zoom.  While this way is so different as we didn't get to mix and mingle with other people, it was also more accessible. This meant that we were able to have more staff completing these workshops.

Our team were able to gain further knowledge on; Leadership, dealing with challenging behaviors and conversations. Then we were delighted to all come together on a Saturday  to undergo First aid training.  We update this as a group once a year.  All of us have our;

1.Level 2 First Aid and CPR

2.Emergency Management of Anaphylaxis including how to use an epipen.

3.Emergency Management of Asthma

We are delighted to announce that we will have our staff photo board back up from next week. We are hoping that this will allow you know who you are handing your children over to and having that morning/evening conversation with, or who your child talks about.  We don't believe in name badges, but we are trying to find ways of ensuring everyone knows everyone names. This also goes from us too.  We need to make take a little more time to get to know the names of the faces behind each child.

We Look forward to what Term 3 will bring for Haven.
