Senior School Report

The end of Semester 1 has approached and Year 11 VCE students have just completed their Unit 1 exams.  Some were done online and some were written.

The Senior Sub School would like to congratulate every single student for their adaptability during this time.  Our Year 11 and 12 students came back to school where there were a whole lot of restrictions put into place and very little time given to our students to adapt, but they did.

Some teachers were still teaching remotely, and students were attending their classroom and logging in for their class to begin.

Information from the State Government and the Education department was changed. As the Year 12 VCE and VCAL student commenced school earlier that forecasted, the dates for the end of the year also changed.

Please take note of the following dates as they have now been finalised:

  • VCAA - GAT (General Achievement Test) : Wednesday 9 September. This is compulsory for any student studying a Unit 3/4 subject wanting to do the external exams
  • VCAA External Exams : Monday 9 November to Wednesday 2 December
  • Mid-year Exams: Monday 20th July to Thursday 23rd July – there won’t be any timetabled classes during this time.
  • End of Unit 3 Reports (including VCAL) : will be available to families Friday 7 August
  • Unit 3/4 Practice Exams during September : Monday 28 September to Friday 2 October (second week of the school holidays)

With all the assessments taking place so we can best prepare our students for their final exams, it is important that students and families are aware that marks may change due to statistical moderation, the GAT and individual student ranking.

Semester 2 for Year 11 students started Tuesday 9 June, where we had over 50 students requesting to change a subject.  As mentioned in our previous newsletter, we endeavored to make the changes. Students that have changed a subject will need to get the resources for the subject.

We have re-booked ‘Elevate Education’ to continue working with our Year 11 and 12 students in Terms 3 and 4.

Again, we would like to thank parents who contact us when their child is absent for any reason. This is of great assistance to the Year Level Coordinators, as we call home regularly if there are any unexplained absences. The Case Management process continues to monitor closely the attendance, achievement and individual needs of all our students. Please contact us on 9366 2555, if you have any queries or concerns about your child.

Year 11 VCAL Chase Program

CHASE stands for Community Health Advancement and Student Engagement. CHASE is a not-for-profit organisation that educates students on preventative health. Learning about prevention is important in maintaining health and wellbeing, as we get older. We improve student understanding of health, and help students use this knowledge to create a community-based project. Our values are to engage, educate and empower. The CHASE program provides a safe and fun learning space for students.

CHASE will run over two term, and it is split into two halves:

Education Phase and Project Phase. During Education Phase, students learn about 5 health topics. They are Nutrition, Physical Activity, Respect & Relationships, Alcohol & Other Drugs, and Mental Health. These workshops teach students information relevant to their personal health and development. Students can take this information and apply these skills in Project Phase.

Project Phase is 6 workshops where students create a project in small groups based on something they have learned during Education Phase. For example, students may be assigned Nutrition as a topic and decide to run a cooking class that will teach other students how to eat healthy meals.

Showcase is the final exciting event at the end of the year. Students present their projects and hard work to peers, teachers, families and communities. The work done through the CHASE program aligns with the VCAL curriculum, so students will be marked on the projects developed during Project Phase.

This week’s topic was Physical activity.

Goal

  • To understand the benefits of physical activity for a person’s health and wellbeing, as well as barriers that prevent us from engaging in regular physical activity
  • To understand that physical activity comes in different forms and depends on a person’s capability

Below are some pictures of students involved in the Physical Activity.
