Food Studies

Throughout lockdown, all of St Albans’ Food Studies students continued to practice their cooking skills from home. Students were encouraged to cook and assist their parents in the kitchen.

Students documented their efforts, adding photos and ingredient lists to an ongoing project in Google Classroom. Their cooking was self-evaluated; students were required to share what went well and what would have made the dish better.

Photographs and descriptions of amazing dishes began to be uploaded in the first week of term two and continued throughout the lockdown period. Teachers were certainly keen to check the submissions every morning to see what masterpieces had appeared.

Some students found themselves helping in the home kitchen for the first time and learning secret family recipes. Students used the time to get creative and cooked food for all occasions; siblings’ birthdays, Eid (end of Ramadan), or simply a family breakfast.
