Year 11 VCAL Literacy Course

As part of their VCAL literacy course, students in 11V and 11W designed, constructed and completed obstacles course on Friday 29th May.

To demonstrate their ability to provide clear and concise instructions, the students had to guide their friends through the course whilst blindfolded. Different courses required a different set of instructions so that students could climb over, step through and walk around different pieces of equipment designed to make the course challenging.

The obstacle course that our VCAL Year 11 class constructed was an amazing and fun task to get back into after a hard nine weeks of remote learning. I found this activity entertaining and amusing as everyone contributed equally to designing and then creating a challenging task for our fellow classmates. I enjoyed participating in everyone’s creations as it gave me a challenge throughout their obstacle course, especially as we were blindfolded and relying on clear instructions from our friends.

Some of the challenges in this experiment were being blindfolded and letting my peers instruct me on what action to do next so I could complete the steps safely. The remote learning experience was very different from being in the classroom. It was nice to be reunited with my peers and interact face to face instead of being behind a screen. Doing something practical like this was a really good test of what we have learnt about giving instructions.
