Learning and Teaching

Staff News

We had a small but lovely Baby Morning Tea for Jessica on Thursday. Jessica will be working remotely for the next two weeks and will then commence Maternity leave. We say a BIG thank you to Jess for all her work with our Juniors in LS3. We wish Jess and Luke the very BEST as they wait the birth of their first child in July.

We welcome Jennifer to our staff. Jennifer will commence with us on Tuesday 26th May a week earlier than planned. Jennifer will be taking over Jess's Home Group.

Tim commenced with us officially this week. Tim will be working with Amy with the learning and teaching of juniors in LS1 and has taken over from Meg who is on maternity leave now.

That looks yummy!

Kalyani shows she can tackle the Pizza Task with ease.

She shared:

  • 20 mushrooms,
  • 10 tomatoes,
  • 4 hams,
  • 12 cheeses evenly in half or into two groups.

I love Kalyani's illustration of the problem using real food! Very artistic indeed. I hope you got to make the pizza and eat it too! Well done Kalyani.

Sound Trap  - or Musical Creativity

This week, the Seniors explored an loop-based compositional program called ‘Sound Trap’. Students watched an instructional video and had a turn at creating their own compositions.

Once the students were complete, they exported their music files to MP3 and uploaded it onto Google Classroom – which is a tricky skill in itself!

Students on iPads used an app call uBeats – a similar loop-based compositional app and also exported their files uploaded their tracks to email.

Upon completing their compositions, all students were required to complete a reflection of their song.

Here are some examples of tracks:

Week 6 Junior Music – Rhythm and Pulse

This week, the Juniors explored Rhythms and Pulse (Beat) online. Students watched a video about the differences between Rhythm and Pulse, and practised clapping beats and reciting rhythmic patterns.

Once the students were ready, they were to complete a quiz about Rhythm and Pulse. The quiz consisted of ten questions.

The Juniors got to finish the lesson with interactive music compositional tools called ‘Drum Bit’, ‘McBrain’s Online Drum Kit’ and ‘Type Drummer’.

Here are some video examples of students clapping beats and reciting rhythmic patterns:

ART NEWS

Important Art Message to all students.

An old Shirt is fine too!
An old Shirt is fine too!

When we return to school and resume Specialist’s lessons each student will need to have their own art smock.  This is due to circumstances and a way of practicing safe hygiene practises.  Please check if your child has an art smock, if they don’t they could use an old shirt or long sleeve T-shirt that comfortably fits over their winter uniform.  If this is a problem could you please contact me and I can arrange something for you.  Louise

This week the Seniors worked on their drawing skills by exploring different tools and effects in a digital art program or app.  These programs have included Paint, Pencil Madness, Bomono, Tate Kids, Drawing Desk and Scribbler.   Some have created creative abstracts, while others have drawn a picture.

Thank you to all those students who have sent me photos of their fabulous toilet roll art.  It is amazing to see such creativity.  This will be the last week for this challenge so if you would like to create an art piece from a toilet roll you still have some time left.  You can see these wonderful creations in the Senior and Junior Art classrooms under the creative challenge heading.

All photos can be emailed to lhyde@sfslynbrook.catholic.edu.au or upload onto Junior Art or Art Seniors classrooms.

Enjoy and have fun.
