Year 11

Year 11 students have returned to the College for face to face teaching with a resilience and thirst to participate in normal school routines and traditions past students have taken for granted. The COVID experience has highlighted the role and need for effective leadership within the College and wider community. But what makes a good leader? This is the current focus for Year 11 students. Every Year 11 student is being encouraged to develop their capacity for good leadership, whether this results in a formal role at the college or simply being a mindful senior student. We have started with a small task; “The Great Kindness Challenge”. Students are encouraged to show small acts of kindness to someone they know well and someone they don't, over a 5 day period. With these little acts, students will hopefully start to develop a closer bond with their peers. At our next year meeting, we will be working on understanding of what characteristics a leader at our College should have or be working towards.
Year 11 Physics students have been working on their Solar Ovens since returning to the College. This experiment forms part of their 15 hour Depth Study. A depth study is any type of investigation/activity that a student completes individually or collaboratively that allows the further development of one or more concepts found within or inspired by the new science syllabus’. The aim is to heat 100mls of water, but we may have just modified this for one session - we made smores!
